Just been reading that Manchester City offered Maguire £280k per week in wages, but being
a Manchester United fan as a kid, he opted to sign for them on £180k per week.
Just goes to show though, some players don't make money the be all and end all when deciding where to play.

He's the sort of player Man Utd need. I'm not really that interested in the Premier League anymore, but it would be interesting if they were capable of challenging City & Liverpool.

I'm not sure he's really going to struggle financially despite taking lower wages. I do agree with your point in general though - money wasn't the only factor in his decision unlike a lot of other top flight players.

I'd like to think that if Barnsley offered me £180k per week at the same time as the blunts offered me £280k per week I would choose Barnsley.

I think they can spend a few more decades in the wilderness until all the glory supporters have gone.

The article reads as follows " Etihad bosses made Maguire an offer worth £70 million, but the player
snubbed them to sign a long term contract with United for almost £100,000 a week less than he could
    have earned under Pep Guardiola.

When it became clear Maguire was off to Old Trafford, Guardiola claimed Maguire had been " too expensive"
but it's since emerged, City's huge offer was not enough to tempt him."

It then goes on to claim that the reason he turned it down, was " he had his heart set on United, who he supported whilst he was growing up in Sheffield."

Not quite true. His brother was released and his dad got the hump and found a new club for Harry.

If true he s a fool, turning down a chance of champions league football, certainty of silverware; being coached by possibly the best in the world plus more money!

I dont believe it but Manure need something to crow about given that Pogbas brother is stirring things again!
