Just got this from Sky Sports As things stand he won't be eligible for Derby's game at home to Barnsley on New Year's Day because that is the first day he can register as a player with the EFL. However, if that game is selected by Sky Sports to be a live game on January 2, or later, he could then make his debut. Otherwise his first availability will be the FA Cup third-round tie on the weekend of January 4/5.
The prospect of Wayne Rooney playing? Sky will be dribbling about it for weeks. Hype will be through the roof and into outer space. If there was a bet available for them televising it I'd stick the house on it.
In fairness, they are right to. I am excited to see what he does back in England and in the Championship, had they not been playing us I'd still watch his first game back out of interest, so I expect millions more will.
TBF, I would not be that bothered as I think our back line by then will be even stronger and I would be amazed if he played the whole 90 minutes.
Be bad for those who’ve marked it out as an away day and can’t get day after. However be great for majority of Barnsley fans who weren’t going to be able to watch it live and some good buisness in tarn for pubs n that .
Exactly not interested in it one bit even if he's there he's not guaranteed automatic place if they are doing well.
It is a bit interesting, he’s pretty famous after all. I’ve watched him loads of times for England and so it’ll be good to see our defenders giving him a run for his money. I get the entertainment value in this case.
