Reading some of the comments on here about needing to get a striker in it made me think. What would you all prefer? 1) Paying more for a player than we value them at just to get them in; or 2) Sticking to our valuation, not signing a striker and going with what we’ve got; or 3) Signing a lower quality player to bolster the squad Personally I’d prefer number 2 but how many would agree come 5pm if we’ve not signed anyone?
Then what happens if the selling deal falls through and we're left having to pay for a transfer without the money in, and left paying double wages while only playing one or the other. There is no 'easy solution'. I'm sure the club were convinced they had a replacement lined up, probably the Czech lad, or Kone, but these things happen.
I mean 1 sounds dramatic but might actually be okay. Say we value a player at 1.2, the selling club value him at 1.4, I’d rather suck it up and pay the last minute rush premium (provided other than the price I was sure it was the right player), than have to hope he’s still on the market come Jan, and that the team hasn’t dropped vital points in that time due to his not coming earlier.
I think we would perhaps have to pay over the odds last day and clubs knowing we have let Moore go beforehand. I don't think we have played our hand well so far this past couple of weeks. The fact is it might be better paying 10-15% more on a striker rather than put our season at risk.Maybe relax on the 2nd or 3rd addition to compensate. Having said that we should do all we can avoiding getting to any situation backing ourselves into an 'over the odds' position
