So would i but i dont think thats the case. Like any manager He might not be getting everything he asked for but i doubt he will be out of the loop on these signings and cant be unhappy with the players he has. He also said in interviews he is happy here, proud of players, pleased with performances and the way the team has come together. I think we all would have wanted a bit more experience but we also know the clubs recruitment policy of young hungry players who have the club and their future to play for.
I don't think he'll be here beyond his contract personally. I do think we could have a very interesting season.
I hope I’m wrong, but I now expect he won’t be here much longer at all. September/October when sackings begin and we’re likely to see enquiries
I think we all know public words aren’t always true deep down. Let’s see his body language the next few weeks.
Come on I asked how you know he wasn’t listened to? You categorically stated he wasn’t listened to, how do you know? How do you know the club didn’t try to sign some players but were unsuccessful, that would mean they did listen but couldn’t complete. So come on tell me how do you know they didn’t try?
You make a very good point. Stendel asking for proven players at this level means; 1. It gives him an excuse if it goes tits up 2. His stock rises if he makes a success of it nevertheless 3. He's prepared to mix it with his masters rather than be their puppy dog. 4. He understands the bleedin' obvious, which is that there sometimes is no substitute for experience.
I think that would always be the case. Mowatt and Woodrow probably best we got in terms of Champ experience with over 150 Games in Championship. A few others from Champ clubs. Not blessed with a huge level of experience there but one of the reasons we signed up Stendel was his record working with younger players and the players we have signed are young and have the ability to play to Stendel's style. He will always be a target while ever he is doing well. I am ok with the squad, always could be a bit stronger of course but they looked ok at this level on Saturday and lets hope the consistency and their development brings a good start.
They either tried and failed, or didn’t try, or try hard enough. Either way the outcome is the same and our head coach hasn’t got what he asked for has he? So don’t try and angle words to suggest otherwise.
I also fear expectancy is too high. We could easily have drawn or lost on Saturday. And we missed some very good chances again. I actually think our ritual unlucky defeat at Hillsborough would be a good thing to ensure feet are on the ground
And what if to succeed with these signings we end up in the same boat as the likes of Bolton, QPR, Reading and others?
Why does one experienced head (that Stendel asked for) equate to £200m of debt? We may look back on 4-5 year contracts for 19-20 year old as stupidity that costs us millions. Who knows?
Alternatively we could be a premiership team with a bunch of 23 year olds who have been playing together for 3 years and all know each other’s moves so playing better together as a team.
I was happy with the squad before today as the club has been very sensible and got most of the players in early, giving them time to gel. Today’s signings have been a bit of a bonus in my view and I’m personally very pleased we haven’t thrown a grenade into our wage structure to end up lumbered with an overpaid journeyman. Having looked through some of the championship signings today, the clubs throwing brass about like confetti as a straightforward gamble to be one of the 3 to go up, only enhances my view that my club is going about it’s business exactly how I’d like.
That doesn’t fit the strategy, I doubt many of our players, coaches, maybe even owners, will be here in 3 years time.
You can keep saying that Stendel said he wanted players with championship experience, but he clarified that he wanted players who had played at that level...not in that league. I’m not saying that the Austrian bundesliga is the same level at the championship but maybe Stendel believes it is.
There is a lot of sense in your post. It remains to be seen as to whether (apparent) youthful raw talent is enough to keep us moving forward. It has to be said that e.g. Rooney Owen and Maradonna at age 18+ would have been enough to have us thrive in this league irrespective of age. So experience is not paramount. Saturday showed that we've imported a few that not only have talent but put a shift in, to go with those who we know care about their performances for us. Effort goes a long way. There are a few good teams in this league though and it'll be tough. If the new boys do as well as those we've seen so far, we'll be OK.
Lionel Messi doesn’t have any championship experience either but I bet he’d love to have him. Experience isn’t always a great thing. I’d rather have an excess of talent than an excess of experience. The fact is, most players at our level and in our price range tend to be a bit ****. Experienced players at our level and in our price range tend to be old, slow and a bit ****.
