So after Saturdays shambles I emailed them regarding the situation of trying to get a sugary drink for a diabetic child. The email response I have received is even more incredible than the poor service they provided on Saturday. I don't know how to copy and paste emails into here but it goes something along the lines of 3 main bullet points. 1. The snack bar was closed due to Barnsley fans letting flares off, threatening staff and trying to gain access to the tills. The first two points there fair enough, the idiotic cling ons that ruin it for our genuine away following. But trying to gain access to the tills that were contactless payment only?? Really? 2. The bullying from the 'head safety' officer. No apology on the matter, just that they will review CCTV regarding that. In other words it will be swept under the rug and never looked at! 3. The most worrying of all. 'They had first aiders and doctors on site'. Well done that's a great statement! So rather than trying to prevent a potential serious situation by simply going and getting 1 bottle of Fanta, you would simply have let a child collapse to the floor before you would have done anything to help because you had doctors there!!! It sounds like this club have learnt nothing in the last 30 years!
This is the problem at football everyone is lumped together. I actually think they were correct to shut up shop. But once you asked for help i don't see why that couldn't be sorted. They could easily have got you a drink, but all you get is, it's your own fault your fans have caused this. This is why I will support any action by our club to ban this idiots that happen to support the same team as me. As others have said if that's what supporting a team looks like in want no part of it.
No problem with them shutting up shop if our 'supporters' were threatening them I would have done the same. It's the response to a potentially very serious situation that has got to me. It's like health and safety doesn't exist at that place
Sounds to me the issue here is lack of training from the staff. Likelyhood is they are casual staff and as such dont ‘warrant’ training. They should have shut up shop, but common sense should have kicked in over your circumstances. The email response sounds like a generic don’t commit to anything response
Exactly I'm sure a bottle of pop could have been sorted. The law abiding Barnsley fans like yourself are just as much a victim of the idiots as anyone else.
Absolutely mindless idiots some of our supporters. I don’t mind all the signing and chanting on the concourse. But the threats, flares and whatever else is not needed. Been called a boring lovely person etc on twitter for saying idiots need to give up with the smoke bombs. I just don’t get what they add other than a few chemicals filling up your lungs.
I wouldn’t let this one drop. My Mam’s type 1 and we’ve sometimes had to argue for half an hour to be allowed to take a bottle of lucazade into various events but have got there in the end, sometimes after seeing the manager. She always carries her card with her to show. We’ve had arguments that no food or drink are allowed in, they sell drinks etc. but as you found out on Saturday, things can go wrong and a diabetic can die if they do not get treatment fast. It’s even worse that they need to stay still to conserve blood sugar levels and having to walk somewhere to find something else makes the problem worse faster. Only once have we been in a situation where she was caught out without anything (we went out for a walk on the first night of our holiday in Spain and somehow got hopelessly lost). She’d took 2 digestive biscuits and a sip of lucazade out with her (tip: empty small spirit bottles are fantastic for this and take up no space in a pocket or bag, might look weird a kid drinking from one though). The thing is, we’d been out for about 3 hours (we’d only planned on around an hour) and she’d already had them and it was late so all shops were closed and we had no phone on us. As she was panicking, her levels were dropping lower and it was at the point where she really needed to sit down. I went sprinting down streets trying to find an open shop and having to remember my way back to her. Biggest panic of my entire life and not something I ever want to repeat!
I went to Preston away last season and the behaviour of our fans in the concourse is shambolic at times. I was drenched in lager and stank of stale ale for the rest of the day. Why pay nearly £4 quid for a bottle of Carling to throw it in the air?
The only way to change procedures is voice them concerns. They should stop tarring ALL fans with the same brush .Hope common sense prevails in this matter and i cant see in 2019 why you would have to prove you need a drink of lucozade to prevent a medical condition. Unbeleivable Jeff
