More solid and less expansive. Seems a pretty flat pitch for day 1. Bat sensibly, bat big, bowl them out twice as pitch deteriorates... weather permitting
Good effort that, at 27/2 and with Hazlewood bowling really well I feared the worst but Denly and Burns have stuck in well. Need to kick on in the afternoon now or it’ll have been wasted. Buttler coming in at 180/3 is a massive difference than 80/3.
And another one's gone! Just when we are starting to rebuild and look ok. I'm going for 250ao if not less.
I'd rather batsman accruing runs and getting 30's and 40's than occupying the crease for 3 hours and prodding one to third slip for 5 or 6. If every player scored 30 that would be a par score of 330. It' would give something for the bowlers to bowl at.
Denly got a Jaffa he did well to hit, as for butler he’s just got himself out, no need to play at all. Burns had a few lives but an opener deserves a bit of luck now and again, he did well
Can’t argue about Burns and Denly, but now comes our weakness, the much praised strong middle order which looks nothing of the sort of late. Just some common sense, bat the situation and dig in
What idiot plays across the line to a spinner who’s getting turn with a hint of variable bounce? I’ve had enough of this stupid middle order who can only bat on flat tracks with a white ball Time for stokes and Buttler to be put out to limited overs pastures
In Mondays paper Stokes was taunting the Aussies saying " all you will be taking back to Oz are some photographs of your tour." Having lost the first Test I thought it might have been prudent to keep quiet and let our cricket do the talking for us. Looks like we might need the weather to intervene in this Test to make sure we don't go two down.
Not sure what Lords pitch will do, we do have a decent bowling attack, and if they just keep around off stump and let the slope do the rest. 200-250 can be a reasonable score at lords. But I’ve little doubt we’ll not win ashes back. We can’t bat well and haven’t often passed 300 for ages. Tickets for days 1 and 5 of oval test.
