Got tickets for Birmingham away as I’m working in the area, just wondering where people will be headed. Looked online but apparently not away fan friendly around the ground. Cheers
Do not drink in or around the ground. Absolute toilet. In the city there's loads. Post Office Vaults and Bacchus are quirky underground ale houses, above ground The Wellington and Sun on the Hill are decent but usually busy, bit further away from the ground but still in the centre is Pint Shop, Lost and Found, Cosy Club that all do a variety of beers and the latter two are massive so won't have to worry about space. There's also Brewdog and Cherry reds just outside the station, along with 2 Wetherspoons (Briar Rose and Square Peg - the latter is a bit of a shithole though) within walking distance of each other.
Stick to the city centre and wander down afterwards. The Anchor used to be your best bet closer to the ground, but it changed hands a few years ago so I'm not sure what their view is now. Their beer's got worse by all accounts too.
Im working near broad street so also interested to know where folk are drinking before hand (And if anyone I know is going)
Broad Street is a toilet. There's a Spoons and that's about it. Brindley place next door though is nice - there's a couple of good pubs there on the canal, plus pitcher and piano, slug and lettuce and a couple of other chain-type drinking/eating places. It's a trek to the ground from there though so would recommend getting a taxi.
6 of us coming up from banbury, train gets us in at half four, probably start off in Wellington, bennetts hill. Last time we were there we called in to the anchor on the way to the ground, hearing its gone downhill a bit. Shame, they had some decent ale.
I've not been for ages but I'd heard the opposite - that it'd been taken over last year and revamped, still selling tonnes of different beers.
