So you've written them off as crap already? After 5 games that's pathetic.... Who says nobody else wants them?
Oh, I support Nantwich Town, that’s why I’m on a Barnsley Forum..... see my point!!!! What are we up against here...... talk about banging head against a brick wall!!!
There was definite frustration that players had chosen to leave and not sign new contracts. In my opinion that was more of a frustration than signing experienced players to start with. However, he did point out that someone like Pinnock was playing National League football all of 4/5 years ago and have tough decisions to make when presented with the contracts on offer. As much as there were sound bites around wanting experience there was also an acknowledgement that we’re not a team that can afford that experience. He isn’t unhappy, but he’s definitely frustrated.
Does experience guarantee anything though? Look at the experience in our 2001/02 and 2013/14 relegated teams - Morgan, Chettle, Barnard, Ward(Mitch), Donovan, Dyer, Sheron, Gorre----Steele, Hassell, Ramage, Cranie, Hunt, O'Brien, Lawrence, Proschwitz, O'Grady. From what I remember, Stendel was appointed because he presented a long term strategy based on the clubs desire to develop players, whereas Jack Ross at interview simply said he'd deliver promotion but had no strategy (must confess I cannot reference where I've seen this). It's risky and it's concerning so far this season, but I've also seen us at this level with more experienced players and start seasons just as badly if not worse. The supporter in me would have loved to have kept the promotion side together and just "had a go" at the division but I don't accept the club is wholly at fault here. Its a massive gamble to recruit as we have done, but no way am I writing players off this early, and I completely accept that the turnover of players makes continuity and progress difficult. I'm not prepared to give up on us, the strategy may fail, may succeed longer term, I genuinely don't know what to expect but then again I never have done. We've had mixed results with various plans and strategies over 132 years of BFC, I think with what is happening with football finances, especially in view of the Bury and Bolton situation, that an increasing number of clubs will reign things in and look at developing squads to primarily survive. Its a sobering thought for supporters and as much a reflection on where the game is going in general.
I'm a season ticket holder of 20 years and a regular away supporter but that has nothing to do with the fact that writing our team off after 5 games is pathetic! We have 4 points unlucky not to have 6 with a winnable game at Wigan on Saturday so its not all doom and gloom!
We’ll lose at Wigan, into bottom 3, never get out & guess who’ll score...... Kieffer Moore. Or maybe Sam Morsy. I almost hope they do to highlight your nievety in terms of our continued lack of ambition. 2-1 Wigan (if our woeful defence have a good night!)
All of that made total sense when Pinnock, Lindsay and Davies left. They had the power, and as much as I didn't like it the club got decent enough prices and brought in replacements. I understood the strategy. Then they sold Kieffer Moore with 2 years left on his contract and left us with Jack **** up front, and I felt like a fecking eejit for believing there was any other plan than to make a few quid.
To be fair, at least we won't have to worry about the January window. If all these players are rubbish, then at least nobody else will want them.
Im dead famous ya know, not even contributed to this topic yet and I’ve got people shouting my name. If you don’t move fast @Gally i could end up leaving on a free to tykes talk
Y see, what’s funny is that you ‘bit’ with a response which acknowledged my premise, then tried to pretend that you didn’t understand what I meant, then added a childish retort. If you’d had the brains to just edit your original post; you might have just about got away with it. But here your ‘thought’ process is visible to all. It’s quite a charming insight into the adolescent mind.
Well if you re for real and want some sense try stopping sniping at folk all the time because you come across as a WUM most of the time
Frustration or unhappiness? That’s a matter of semantics. Maybe there should have been greater consideration of offering Pinnock more money, as playing games in the Championship with a back four that consists of two 20 year olds and two 21 year olds is a huge risk as well and one that might lead to a quick return to League One. I know it’s early days and nothing is guaranteed in football, but I got the impression that Stendel thinks we are really up against it this season.
Also, this notion that Barnsley can’t afford that experience seems strange when you look at Luton, who financially can’t be too dissimilar to us. They have brought in the likes of Cranie and Butterfield. They may not have much sell on value, but they might keep them in the Championship whilst the younger members of their squad continue their development. No-one is asking for a team full of has-beens, just 2 or 3 older heads to help the youngsters.
