I was going to ask if that was the house in question. I’m on Lady Croft too and pondered moving further into the estate. Good luck, hope everything goes smoothly. My mate Tony lives on that street and he’s a massive red. Sure you’ll fit in well.
Tony will definitely show him the way tut Albion. (Auto pilot). PS would be great to get him on here but he dunt even know how to answer his bloody phone. Luckily got the lovely Sue's number. So contact him through her. Also he has a great attitude. If we lose a game the opposition were always ***** and cheated or ref's bent.
Hi All! Finally moved in yesterday. Great welcome by some of the neighbours. Seems a lovely little village. Farm shop pork pie is stunning. If you see a big daft 6ft 7 idiot walking round with a daft as a brush staffy don’t be afraid to say hi, my names John. We don’t bite. Number 6 burtop croft. My first house in Barnsley ❤️
Seek Tony out. top house on left. (Not sure of number) He'll show you the way tut Albion. Tell him Paul Mac (me) says he's a cantankerous old sod. PS You've not had a proper pork pie till you nip up to percies butchers up Jump. Hope to catch up with you round n about.
Added to previous comment John. If you wish to travel to away games myself and Tony (no.15 BTW ) Among others All volunteers (committee) run buses to all away games. ( Longest running independent branch) Local pick up points. Great bunch of members. 150+.
Lived in Hemingfield since 1987. It is on edge of Wentworth estate and plenty of country walks Pork pies may be nice at Farm Shop but Percy Turners are known world wide. Travel thro woods only 10 minutes into Barnsley for matches
Can I ask you the opposite @stanningtontyke as it is one of the places I am considering moving to: what's Oughtibridge like? Thanks!
It's nice. Pubs are great, walks are lovely. On the downside It's very expensive and there's a new housing estate of around 300 houses going up with no new schools or infrastructure to deal with the amount of new people and traffic. I lived very close to Glen howe Park which is beautiful and has some stunning walks.
Strangely enough I used to work in Oughtibridge at British Tissues in the 70s/80s. Popped round that way on a nostalgia trip while up in Barnsley for my mums funeral in June and noticed they were knocking the last bits down. Ex Elsecar myself Welland Crescent from 1956-1990. Lived next door to a Wednesday fan and Leeds fan just down the road. Remember well the fields being on fire near the railway lines between Elsecar and Jump as we exchanged pleasantries
I worked in the loading warehouse at the end. Always 'interesting' seeing what colour the river was if the dye accidently leaked into it. Bill Pedlar was my boss, he lived in Wharncliffe Side near the pub. Also worked with Norris Burgess who was from Oughtibridge itself. Good memories of a more carefree time
I remember the first time I saw Welland Crescent, it frightened me no end, couldn't believe that place was within walking distance of where I lived and yet 200 years distant. It was like something out of a Hogarth engraving.
