All our acquisitions have real potential and the Board have invested in them. I really hope the management team can bring them on but I wonder if the gegenpress is the right style of play for them at their current stage of development and at this level? Do we need to be a little less 'gung ho' for now?
You are right it worked perfectly for the first 20 minutes today but they could never maintain that for 90 plus minutes and the quality in this league will work a way round it like they did today. We need to be more compact harder to beat and try to score on the break, get woodrow to stay in the box or on the last man with midfield breaking forward with pace. Bahre should be the first name on the teamsheet if he could just bring the magic mike that he can be.
Personally don't think it's the style or tactics. Had we scored a second goal during that early period then we wouldhave been able to sit in a bit and counter. I just don't think the players are up to the level required yet and unfortunately the damage could already been done by the time we have an opportunity to do something about it. I also have to wonder if we can afford or attract the quality that would make a difference.
This is a league one squad, we sold half our side and our defensive foundation and replaced it with no championship pedigree, what did we expect? This side has been assembled for next years league one campaign not to have a go this year!
The board and the recruitment staff know Stendels way of playing (It even was a big reason why they hired him) So if they are buying players that can't play Stendels tactics then why is the spotlight on Stendel to change? Just smacks of incompetence from the scouting to the board if this is the case.
