Hecky went 10 games without a win just getting 4 draws in those 10 games. Daniel has gone 9 games without a win with 2 draws in those 9 games. we scored 4 goals in both coaches spells. Football wise I would say a few decent performances and quite a lot not so good Hoping Derby is going to change DS fortunes because I would like to see him turn it around. With regards to Hecky I think the time had come for him to move on.
Like I said I think that team was better than this, the 2 wins came against Birmingham who couldnt buy a win at the time and were 2nd bottom and sunderland who finished bottom. Performance wise the leeds game was a better performance than any that season as was fulham. Which manager would you be confident in getting the best out of this lot if the board did get shut? I hope we can get something tomorrow but I'm not confident.
Dunt bother with any of that anymore whichever coach we got is what I would have to put up with so no use in wasting mi fingertips on that. Very rare I watch owt other than Barnsley anyway football wise and sometimes watching that oer years couldn`t be classed as football either.
The board have done tremendously well in deflecting attention to the head coach when he has done a fantastic job. To put budgets in context last year Sunderland had a budget that was nearly the sum of the other 23 clubs combined but failed to get promoted. The club sold one of our better players, Brad Potts, who has gone on to prove himself as championship standard, to make ends meet. We lost our leading scorer to injury and still made automatic promotion. For a first year in management it would be hard to top that. The head coach then lost the spine of the team which were replaced by young players with limited experience but potential. How anyone can say the position we find ourselves in is Stendel's fault is missing the main point. Yes, he may have made mistakes in games but so does every manager. The key fact is that he's being expected to compete in the championship without the benefit of either experience or players who have forged an understanding of each other. The last time the club did this we were bottom of division one, not the championship but division one, with players like Hourihane, Winnall, Roberts, Scowen, Mawson and Watkins. Even with players who have gone on to prove themselves in higher leagues we struggled in division one. How anyone can blame our coach for our current plight is honestly beyond me.
Show some ballax and back the squad we have. It can’t change before January so let’s roll our sleeves up and get on with it.
And the side who is more profit driven don't seem to understand that the best way to make a profit is to have a team doing well on the pitch. They may realise it next summer with a big dip in season pass sales from people sick of them ruining our club.
Cryne had tens of millions. These guys have billions. Cryne would sign a older experienced player such as a Hammill whilst these guys only sign guys from a specific age range. Cryne would loan players that would help our cause such as Trippier, Barnes and McBurnie. These guys won't sign guys on loan unless we have a chance of buying them. The way Cryne ran the club was much better and with a fraction of the wealth of the current board.
Couldn't agree more. At the start of last season I must admit I had some questions as to whether we'd drop 2 divisions. Such was the gutless capitulation and lack of fight shown in the relegation from the Championship. He turned a team with suspect character and habitual losers into a team of confidence with aggressive attacking intent, a team further weakened by losing our first choice midfield (loaned) and McBurnie. So I don't think it was a nailed on promotion, we deserved it and Stendel deserved the praise. This season, he's been hamstrung beyond belief and I feel for him. I don't think any other coach could do much better and I have to admire sticking with principles. When players get used to this system, some of these currently playing included, I reckon we could have a decent squad. We're just 2 seasons early in their cycle, and that's where the board and recruitment team have messed up. It's vital if they are to continue this model that they consider team first. There has to be a conveyor of talent interlaced with knowhow and some players who've been here a little while. It paves the way for the next. At times I look at "the strategy" (though it isn't to us, as we don't know their true intent, strategy is the mechanism of reaching objective via a specific route) and consider it noble, much of the rest of the time I find it a mixture of naïvety and lunacy overlaid with communicative ******** bingo. We can still stay up, but it's fair to say we've chosen to make it as hard as possible to do so. Tomorrow is game 10 and if after we have just 5 points on the board, we will have a slight inkling that January onwards will have to be Flitcroftesque in results.
The head coach and the board have the same objectives that's why and rightly so they will back Stendel.
Same here, if we go down I want to go down Stendels way because on the flip side I think there’s a chance it will all click
Agree with what you say, but just a couple of points Potts does look championship level, but he's playing in a team of players with championship experience. Suspect a lot of our current squad would also look comfortable in more experienced teams. Not saying what we are doing is wrong, just that we'd be in a better position if they all had experience at this level. Seem to remember Potts was classed as a cart horse a couple of weeks before we sold him . not sure I agree that the manager has made mistakes, if that is a reference to our style of play. We/he has a philosophy on how we want to play, would be really disappointed if we threw that away after a few bad results. Personally I like the style, we just need time to get better at it at this level. It is a gamble trying this with kids, but if we don't really give it a go we will end up in that awful, tedious, yo yo position of just avoiding relegation, with no real prospect of ever progressing.
Cant fault him for the job he did in league 1, he did what was required. As for the championship then the jury is still out obviously, but he should be given time. The questions i would have is did he ask for a left back, central midfielder for this campaign?? As its blatantly obvious we are lacking quality in those areas.
personally I think he asked for a left back and true to form he’s been given a young lad with potential but not the ability the jump straight into the first team
It's interesting that the breakdown of the McBurnie deal that August has never been properly explained. My suspicion (for which I have no supporting evidence) is that the cost of McBurnie's wages - even on a loan - would have skewed the favourable financial position that PC was presenting to the consortium with a season long commitment. No doubt the books looked better without that commitment. But our survival prospects were dealt a huge blow.
