How was that the best transfer window ever? Estimated ROI? Because let me tell you this, a good transfer window in this country involves identifying personnel who can compete in the here and now. This is one of the most prestigious, competitive and difficult leagues in European, nay World football. The rewards for competing in it are good, the rewards for getting out of it are either phenomenal or disastrous, dependant on which way you exit. What the Championship is NOT, is a closed shop MLB / NFL / MLS league of franchises who are guaranteed to play the same teams year in year out. This is the English 2nd tier, Barnsley FCs spiritual home and which we look totally lost in, in no small part due to your activity over the summer and your failure to grasp what I have described above. It is a big mans league and you have equipped us with boys. Good, honest lads but totally out of their depth. As are yourselves. I have no choice but to respect your business acumen but this is our club you are toying with. Best transfer window ever? Yee har.
They didn't say best, they said most successful. In terms of quantity of players and speed of hammering out deals they were right. Shame the quality of the players was severely lacking.
^^^^^^^^ This is the key bit! The much talked up "MoneyBall" system works in American sports as is it goes wrong, the team simply starts a fresh the following year with the first dibs on the best rookie players. Over here, you **** up the recruitment and it can have have a knock on effect for seasons to come...
Going into the Championship with Davies, Pinnock, Lindsey and Moore would have been very tough, as it's a massive step up from League One, but to replace them with inexperienced young lads was just laughable. The recruitment didn't even give us a chance, which is an insult to the loyal fanbase. You have to question their motives now...
I could have picked up as many signings as they did in the time it took them..... And all my signings would have been crap.. Its like mowatt and woodrow been offered contracts at prem sides... Course there gunna sign
Their bank balance. Have any of our multi billionaires put a single penny of their own money into the club, or is it all borrowed against the club of which we are paying interest? Genuine question.
They've gone very quiet tho haven't they. Paul not been showing up at the fanzine of late, Dane not been giving us an optimistic soundbite. About time they showed up and explained what their strategy is to improve this shiteshow they created.
Tbf to them there buisness men not supporters. If you had there money would you be going to oakwell on a cold fixture aposed to a warmer climate.......... Not defending em just if i was in there position
Murphy is CEO of a struggling business, a bit of an explanation of what theyre planning to improve things might be in order.
Wasn't Conway on stage the game before Brentford? And didn't Dane Murphy do an in depth interview with the Yorkshire Post or someone similar pretty recently? I'm all for criticism, but so many people throwing inaccuracies around about player stats, moneyball (we only quote moneyball because of Billy Beane - we're not actually operating a moneyball system), and other things. Keep it real folks.
I don't remember hearing any acknowledgement from any of the board members or the CEO that things are not going to plan. We are on a quite disastrous run and I'd have thought someone would be giving an explanation/ hope for the future spiel/ spouting ********, just something..........oh for the days of Ben.
Your right about not operating the Moneyball system because if we were we'd not be against signing players with experience we are operating James Crynes version and it's not working.
You think we're operating the vision of someone who owns 20% of the club? James Cryne provides us with an algorithm that uses stats to identify players. He doesn't go out and sign those players based solely on the stats. The 'spreadsheet' didn't sign Sibbick, Raddlinger, Bahre or Wilkes as they were all players Stendel identified.
I have no doubt that some of the signings will cone good in time. Not giving them time to develop or the support of experienced colleagues is to say the least unhelpful
