Good principles, but you have to leaven it with just a little experience if you are competing in a men's league. Squash that - problematical (as my daughter always seems to be saying to me) - in a grown up's league. Inflexibility, and ignoring your new environment never works out well. Remember how you guys excelled in business? I bet it wasn't sticking to a rigid plan and ignoring changing circumstances.
There isn't a plan. We're not a football club. We trade players to make money. Buy them cheap and sell them at a profit when we can. That's the game. We put them in the shop window on a Saturday, the match and result is of no relevance or consequence. We don't support a football club, we support a business that buys and sells commodities, and those are football players. There is nothing else to it.
'A man who commits a mistake and doesn't correct it is committing another mistake' - Confucious c.500B.C.
If you good enough your old enough imo but we bring players in on 4 year deals who aren't yet upto it but in a few years we will make profit. This is wrong we prioritise profit over on field targets, look at jordan William's hardly played last season never even proved he is a league one player for me now all of a sudden he is playing in championship week in week out
Then it’s time for new owners I reckon before the any slim interest in the club is killed off. Conway, chien lee et al. Get us sold if this is all you bought us for ffs.
Inclined to agree. I just don't understand what the attraction is for our mega-rich owners to be piddling about with the sums involved. It makes no sense whatsoever. Perhaps they got fixated watching "Brassed Off" on DVD one rainy afternoon?
Agree this is what I don't like and what makes me think about knocking it on head after this season until things change. In the summer it looks to me as if we prioritised profit over safety, we don't loan any players as we cant make money on them. We sign young players on long deals hoping in that time they will get sold for profits.
Maybe they're just spectacularly naive, deluded in the extreme and genuinely thought this plan had a chance of succeeding in the 5th richest league in Europe? Yep, I know, surely no-one is that stupid right?
Totally agree. It's absolute pants and quite frankly stinks. Does sum up modern football though - the fans are just about irrelevant.
If all our commodities are rubbish and we never win games why will anyone want to buy our commodities? That's not good business. Surely the board will care about how we do?
You could weep Liam, could you not? Robledo Brothers, Tommy Taylor, Ces McCormack, Danny Blanchflower, Otulakowski, Barraclough and Howard, Butler, Currie, McCarthy. Others will recall many many, more names than I can. And that's before we even get to the last 20 years or so. Third tier fodder, with the occasional foray into the second tier before the inevitable firesale and relegation. Sorry Mr Conway, I don't believe in your vision. I have never known such disillusionment as at present - even among the ever-faithful brigade.
I agree and I think almost everyone said it from the start of the season. Even if the policy is weighted towards improving and selling young players, then doing that exclusively is surely going to be detrimental when they are losing every week, rather than having some older experienced players to learn from, get support from and play with. Anything other than what we are seeing would have been miraculous and we all said it- to get unknown young players from across Europe and expect them to with gell together and also compete with the seasoned talent of the championship after a preseason. Even as a business model it is naïve excepting the immediate excellent profits of the last window
The plan imo is buy players for thousands develop and hopefully sell for hundreds of thousands then buy players for hundreds of thousands then sell for a million , then buy for a million and sell for tens of millions and so on till your trading at the top end . It’s not guaranteed obviously but imo that’s the plan as I see it .
Aye that's the plan, but we haven't seen the upgrade in recruits have we? Or if we have, then as the last time we tried this, the lesson is you can't blood them in the Champ and stay up
I’m not sure whether we have or haven’t upgraded as you say they’ve been thrown in deep end . But I’m sure the long term will even out , these owners are not gonna puddle about for scraps at the lower end . Lessons will be learned hopefully but I’m hoping and I’m sure it will be that if we go back a step it’s learned ready to go forward again. I’m sure that the owners will not abandon us and will have more patience than us fans including me .
