After letting this weekends result sink in I see a pattern emerging from our opponents. Brentford and Preston both played with almost everybody defending when we had the ball. When we lose the ball both teams scored goals against us with 2 or 3 men breaks. The reason to me is we commit two many players forward when we attack including both full backs who when our move breaks down are hopelessly out of position. We have players with pace in our team like Thomas,Chaplin Wilks etc.do we need to be so cavalier when we attack. For me keep the defence tight and disciplined and let our quicker players use there pace to give the other teams problems. It works for them maybe it could work for us too.
I don't think I am. Using the Guengenpress involves all the team playing in that style. Why can't we remain compact like other teams and use our pace to catch teams on the break instead of a 10 man cavalry charge. Some of the goals conceded the opposition only had 1 man in the box but we were so far up the field there was no chance of catching them.
We have. The coaching staff are continuously signalling the players to push forward, when it breaks down we are woefully exploited at the back.Last season we were mentally and physically too strong for almost every team in league one. This year our pressing game against multi million pound players isn't working. The 2 full backs for instance are getting crucified by the fans but there only doing as they are told.Let the defenders keep their shape and let the wingers and forwards do there jobs not every man breaking forward all the time.
We go forward full force.. opponent gets ball, little ball over the top and then creates havoc for us
The generals stand at the back shouting orders. The Sargent in the trench is the one that makes it happen. We dont have one. Absolute lack of on field communication costs us game in game out.
Deetee I know you're a regular home and away supporter and you make some valid points but I still think that our style of play is too gung ho.Its alright having a general and a sergeant in the team but if they've all pushed forward the troops in the back line are too exposed .I think at the moment we should drill the defenders in keeping their shape and not going over the halfway line.
Because no ones shouting at a full back to hold or a centre midfielder to drop into the back line while the full backs push up. No-ones on the pitch telling the players when to stand off and when to press. Its what happens when you play kids. they dont have the game time in their legs. they dont know how or have the confidence to issue instructions. an old head sat in the middle of the park dictating and helping this squad would do wonders.
