Anyone recall Conway saying that the preferred playing style of Daniel Stendel was what made him top of the club's short list? (Obviously before they robbed him of a squad capable of delivering it in the Championship.)
I can agree with that wholeheartedly, but when it turns out that the new players aren’t suitable for the preferred system, surely it makes sense to retreat from the system temporarily to stop the rot, whilst working on the training ground. It can’t be right watching basically the same goals being conceded week in week out, plus many near misses. If the HC sticks doggedly to a system that doesn’t work as a kind of protest at his squad being torn apart, you’ve got to ask what he’s thinking. I think Dan is a smashing kid and I’ll be gutted if he’s off, but I think he has questions to answer.
We were told only two coaches were above him. Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp. So obviously the next appointment is a huge downgrade. But then again all that's come out of Conway's mouth is pure drivel since his first presser.
But do you not think it's possible he has been told to stick to that style and he has said "your recruitment won't support it in this league?" Clearly there has been a fallout. I recall Conway saying they hoped they would be able to hang on to him.
I recall several interviews and comments from Conway that Daniel would always be here while ever he wanted to stay (talking about contract negotiations). Little did we realise at the time of those comments, at a time we were playing attacking football, that the future would see actions by our board that meant our HC's position would become untenable and he would essentially be constructively dismissed. I'd suggest that people who question stendel and see him as the chief architect in this to look at root causes. And if Conway et al have decided to accept Daniels resignation, or even worse pushed him, because of his truthful comments that this team isn't championship ready, then what hope do we have if truth is an unwelcome ally?
Stendel hasn’t been towing the party line. At the Supporters Trust event you could tell he was very frustrated with the players sold and their replacements and knew it would be a near impossible challenge. He has repeatedly bemoaned a lack of experience and on Saturday said we played like a youth team. A parting of the ways is inevitable. I sincerely hope the board/owners have the ambitions for the club that they say they have and our current situation is the result of naivety and lack of experience in English football. If they have other ulterior motives then that’s a huge concern. Whatever the answer, they won’t be keen to admit their incompetence, so Stendel has to be the fall guy...
They identified a style of play they wanted all the club to adhere to and hired the head coach based off those requirements. They hired the apparent ‘outstanding candidate’ who was available and he delivered to us promoted and record points total. They then sold his best players and replaced them with young players with no experience but with potential and told him “go on then son do that again but in a harder league and lesser players” Now he’s gone, are they scrapping the requirements for the head coach position or are they going to stick to their guns and hire someone of the same mould just to hope a change is what’s needed?
