Tell me any manager anywhere who could do a better job with the tools available. All i hear from fellow reds is how the squad lacks experience. Cleary we and Stendel know bugger all about football.
They don’t want a head coach or a manager, they’re wanting a puppet. You dare oppose us? You’re gone mate. You’re wanting to improve the team with what everyone who has a clue can see we need? You’re done here.
The "best recruitment ever" has been exposed for the nonsense it is. Clearly Mr Conway is sensitive about this being pointed out. His reputation matters more to him than that we have a decent, clever and highly motivational head coach.
I'm still struggling to see the difference between the message Stendel was giving and the one Keith Hill gave - Hill was roundly slagged off by some supporters for being negative - Stendel is suddenly Martin Luther King. And I know lots of people spat their dummies out because KH said Barnsley fans needed to get real, but their essential message was the same and KH was responding to criticism of himself - something Stendel had not had to do - yet.
Ego maniacs. That's the only way you can approach it when they're so pigheaded as to ignore the expertise and advice of professional football coaches who know the club, and not just that but outsiders and pundits who know the game inside out but have seen very little of us. Ex pros on Sky, on radio, in the press are all saying we need some older heads. Fans are even saying it. It's not like Stendel mentioning it was ever going to be the sole thing to make the fanbase apportion the mistakes to poor recruitment and the strategy of the owners. We were already figuring that out for ourselves thank you very much. Barnsley may be an area of deprivation but by god we aren't that thick and easily manipulated.
If that comes out as being anywhere near remotely true it's beyond pathetic. How can we attract anyone to the club if that turns out to be right? Bit of luck we might go internal for the new coach and pick Disco or Bobby.
Keith Hill was a man deluded by his own self importance and loved to have a snide remark at the fans. His daughter didn’t help things when she labelled Barnsley fans “morons” Whereas Stendel came in, was a rousing success last season and more importantly sought to immerse himself in the local community and did his bit for the local charities. For me the difference between the two couldn’t be any bigger.
What about if Stendel said.Mr Conway I've decided I'm not signing a new contract. My wife and children don't want to live in England and I'm struggling without them.If you let me go now it gives you time to bring somebody else in and try and get us out of this mess. Now that's probably a load of old rubbish but its as feasible as some of the tripe I've read on here.
Slight difference here as: 1. Unlike under Hill, we now have the financial backing to get the required players - our owners just won't do it out of stubbornness 2. Stendel never, upon being asked "do you have a message for the supporters" following yet another defeat, answered "THERE IS NO MESSAGE. THEY'VE GOT TO BE REALISTIC". If you can't see the differences in which Hill and Stendel approached their respective situations and interacted with the supporters then you must be Keith himself.
If that was the angle, I'm pretty sure the club would have come out and said that to prevent the stick they are getting.
No. There is a difference between a gaffer having a go at the board and having a go at the fans. Even if their gripe is similar.
While we're on the topic of Hill, the situations can't be compared because he had the ability to select the players he wanted to sign fully. He chose to sign players he knew (many of whom, rather suspiciously, shared the same agent) who simply weren't up to it at Championship level. The failure of this lead to 'The Plan', 'The Spreadsheet' and all the rest of it to make sure we were shrewder with the players we signed. It was about the product on the pitch then, now it's about making money from player sales.
