I’ve supported Barnsley since 1987, travelling 250 mile round trips every Saturday from 87 to 99 then season tickets and so on after that. My kids are both now avid Barnsley fans. what’s happened over the last few days is unforgivable. It stands against everything that my club is about. It brings sharply into focus what’s gone wrong in football and how every ounce of what made it brilliant has been sucked out of it. It is now drawing on its dying breath. Football is not about balance sheets, AGMs, ROIs and retaining future interests in player fcking sales. Football was, is, should, be about romance, dreams, ecstasy, despair; hopeless optimism. Daniel Stendel embodied all of that. He got it. The fact that Conway et al were prepared to put out that rebarbative and disrespectful statement demonstrates that they just do not -get it. I appreciate that this may seem slightly self indulgent and melodramatic but I just can’t forgive the actions of those in charge and don’t intend to set foot inside Oakwell again until they’ve departed.
What position will the balance sheet play? I'm excited to see it. I hope it doesn't foxtrot off to Brentford or Stoke because I couldn't stand it being someone else's balance sheet. Who needs footballers, eh?
It shouldn't be just about balance sheets bury and bolton over spent massively over a sustained period of time.
I am reserving final judgement until we are made fully aware of the reason DS has gone. Unfortunately to the Board of any Club, players, Coaches, Managers or any other paid employee are all dispensible. On the face of it, from what we can deduce until told otherwise, the manner in which Daniel criticised the recruitment of young players in deference to signing some " experience" was seen by the owners as a flagrant breach of their mission statement and they have made an example of one of our most popular coaches ever. All we can do for now, is wish Daniel well for the future and hope that whoever succeeds him can hopefully turn things round. As for staying away, that's the perogative of every fan. To my mind Barnsley FC is bigger than any owner past or present and the new coach and our young team need all the support and encouragement, we are collectively able to give.
Hes done his on social media. Can hardly do it via BFC can he?. Short and sweet with a picture of him actually winning something.
I'll have to stop replying eventually, but it isn't about being made aware of why Daniel Stendel left for a lot of people. Yes, they might still have an issue with why he's gone, but the biggest issue is the way we announced his departure on Tuesday morning. You don't need to reserve judgement to agree it's one of the worst statements you've ever seen released in football.
I agree fair enough if Daniel wanted some experience which he mentioned before and conway refused and they had a disagreement, go their separate ways but respect and manners cost nothing the statement was poor for a man that achieved what he did last season.
