Isn't that what we've done this season?

Always felt the squad last time was good enough as long as we got a good holding midfielder in which we did in Dougall although I do think Stendel still did a cracking job particularly in the second half of the season after Moore’s head injury & the sale of Potts.

I already see enough in this lot to be a good league one side next time round. The better players will have 30+ championship games under their belts & they’ll only get better for a full season together followed by a pre-season together.

Collins, Cavare, Pinillos, Dougall, McGeehan, Mowatt, Wilks, Brown, Thomas & Woodrow have all shown they’re capable of playing very well at that level.

Both Williams’, Bahre & Chaplin have impressed in league one at times.

Then whichever two emerge as the best centre backs in our current four will be fine. I’d imagine Diaby & Halme would be a pretty dominant league one centre back pairing right now.

There is the issue of losing either Woodrow or Mowatt as they’re the two outstanding players in that lot.

The gap between the championship & league one seems to be getting bigger & it’s rare that anyone with small crowds challenges for automatic promotion these days.

Us, Luton, Pompey, Charlton & Sunderland probably had the 5 biggest crowds last season & we were the dominant 5 teams last year.

I’d expect it to be similar with Ipswich, Sunderland & Pompey this year once the league settles down.

The downward spiral of losing matches and poor confidence shouldn't be underestimated. Plus the owners may decide to cash in on the most saleable assets in the squad. Dwindling gates, poor atmosphere etc could all contribute to a difficult situation. Would need a good manager to reinvigorate the club and get it moving forward again...

True. That's what made Stendel so special in my opinion.

Davies, Pinnock, Lindsay & Potts don't make the first 11 at their new clubs. Only Moore does and he hasn't scored. They are all League One players and no better than what we have now - in my view admittedly. A lot of the current team will look like world beaters in League One.
