Jan Aage Fjortoft, Neil Redfearn, Andy Gray, Matty James, Jan Molby, Kevin Richardson, Danny Wilson, Viv Anderson, John Hendrie, Paul Wilkinson, Stuart Ripley, Keith Curle, Geoff Thomas.. and yes Mido
Vaz Te, Molby, Fjortoft, Hendrie, Hignett and Ward for me. There’s others that were nobodies when they played for us but turned out to be good (Trippier, etc) but I’m not counting them.
Pele. Ronaldo. Messi. Bobby Charlton. George Best. Never thought any of them would have played for us.
Don’t think Neil Redfearn was an eye- opening signing as such. He’d been a bit of a journey man without hitting any sort of heights. Really made his name with us
Apart from the near 20 goals from midfield that helped fire unfancied Oldham to the premier league? Journeyman yes.... player way better than what I thought we could get, absolutely.
Allan Clarke, Ronnie Glavin, Gary Pierce, Norman Hunter, Ian Evans, Alan Birch, Stuart Gray, Larry May, David Geddis, Neil Redfearn (top scorer at Oldham the previous season when they won the Division 2 title), Paul Wilkinson, John Hendrie, Jan Aage Fjortoft.
The ones that I really remember were when we signed England Internationals from Leeds, Allan Clarke as player manager then signed Norman Hunter and a Scottish International from Celtic Ronnie Glavin. I still cant believe we got them and they transformed the club Maybe its because we hadnt ever done anything like that in the seasons I had been supporting us up until then and had been mostly a 4th division side in that time
