kind of similar ? he got 4 years 4 months just for hiding body. but it was decomposed so couldnt confirm cause of death thought to be by strangulation https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...ding-girlfriend-vicky-cherry-body-in-cupboard
Similar but for timing and known cause of death in NZ job. Again looks like he got away with murder to me.
Fair play to the cops down there bartyke. Looks like they did a decent disclosure exercise, seeing ex's and checking internet history etc. Are you going next week btw?
Agreed, great CCTV capture too. The evidence that really sinks him for me is the fact he is straight back on Tinder after disposing of the body. I shall be in attendance. Can’t be worse than last time...
The fact that the killer (as we must now regard him) has had his anonymity retained by the Judge suggests to me that there may be another perhaps similar unrelated offence to be tried. That trial would of course be blown out of the water if his identity were known. Any views, BarTyke? (I believe their Evidence Act 2006 requires the judge to weigh propensity v prejudicial effect in deciding whether to allow similar fact evidence)
Interesting article on this in the Huff post - makes a fair point https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/en...dd57b30e4b0fc53f20cde5e?utm_hp_ref=uk-opinion
I’d be surprised if there was another similar allegation pending as the Prosecution would have applied for joinder and tried them together. It may be just NZ law to grant anonymity in some cases pending conviction but I’d be amazed if that position was maintained now he has been found guilty. It sounds from what you say that NZ bad character provisions closely mirror ours, section 101 (d) CJA 2003 being the propensity gateway for admission of bad character subject to satisfying the safeguards set out at s103. In my view if there was a whiff of previous behaviour of this type or another allegation it would have gone before the jury for them to consider and or determine had they been joined. All will soon be revealed I suspect!
