Prejudice - preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. Prior to yesterday I too thought Halme was a warrior and that his best performances by far were when in battle with an opposition striker. On more than one occasion he's had that striker in his pocket and the player has been substituted. However, he played very well in the position he was asked to play yesterday. For my money, the best performance from a Barnsley player in that position this season. That is up for debate, but what isn't is that it was a far superior performance than that of Dougall when he was last selected against Stoke and was simply dreadful. Prior to the last couple of games I would have also said that picking a team from the current squad that didn't include Woodrow as a striker would be madness. However, he was our best player by some distance at Blackburn and linked up play very well again yesterday. Again, I would say his performances in that role have been superior to that of any other Barnsley player this season. And in the last minute of the game one of our players asked to play as a striker perfectly teed up the other for a breakaway goal of such speed and precision it wouldn't have looked out of place in the Premier League. The best position for Cauley Woodrow is certainly a matter of opinion and up for debate. The claim he's not a good footballer is simply incorrect. I'm not sure, but I did like the way we played yesterday and it meant that Woodrow, one of our better players, saw a lot more of the ball, rather than being isolated up front with no influence on the game as he had been a number of times this season.
I thought Halme had a decent game as the defensive midfielder and Jacob Brown was our least convincing forward. I agree about Woodrow though, wasted in that position, surely it would have made more sense for him and Brown to have swapped places?
Your not the only one who thinks Mowatt or Woodrow will be gone in January but I think you’re wrong . Only way they’ll be gone is if they have release clauses. Even these owners with no reason to sell with long contracts can wait till end of season at least. As I say without knowing what’s in their contracts I can’t say for definite but that would be the only reason unless someone comes in with an absolute daft figure to buy them which I honestly can’t see .
I really hope you are correct and my fears prove unfounded. But we are likely to be relegated and both will have their suitors next month. Both would want to jump ship you would imagine rather than face up to the possibility of another third division season and a likely drop in wages. It’s not necessarily the club who I am blaming in this potential scenario.
I doubt it tbh . They may be here to make money but if we’re in with a realistic chance of surviving there’s more to be made and the long contracts means they still won’t lose out if we don’t
If the price is right mowatt and woodrow will be gone (3million will probely be enough) if we sell players on long contracts in the middle of a promotion campaign (potts)then we will sell in january.
I thought Halme did very well, not only getting stuck in but doing the simple things well and retaining possession. Dougall was also partly responsible for 2 of Blackburn's goals last Saturday, firstly leaving his man, Downing, to help Sibbick unnecessarily, who then scored when the ball broke to him, secondly failing to put any sort of challenge in when the free kick came across for Blackburn's third. For that reason I'd stick with Halme for now, unless we get injuries at centre back. I too would prefer Woodrow up front rather than in midfield, but not sure who could play at the tip of the diamond. Maybe Chaplin? I thought Brown put in a shift but lacks quality.
I'm not sure they'll see beyond a few good offers if made. Also, if Mowatt and Woodrow can double their wages, I think they'll be off.
As far as the players doubling their money it’s common sense they’ll be off if given chance , that’s a given . As for contracts if they have a price written in by their agents theres nothing anyone even club can do if it’s met, which let’s face it agents will let it be known somehow . If we amass a run from now to January which isn’t impossible and keeps us in touch with four or five other teams I’d be gob smacked if we sell . I’m not saying we definitely won’t but people are posting as if we will and it’s a given when it definitely isn’t . I’m not sticking up for these owners by any means but if we sell these players without replacing with better then all sense and reasoning will be gone and I’m not at that stage to believe that will happen .
Well i don’t know your source and not doubting that’s what they’ve heard . But I’m not believing/disbelieving till it’s done and whether we replace if so with better . I’d go insane if we still had half a chance of staying up and this happened but till it does I’m not contemplating it tbh.
I think there’s a difference imo anyway , These two players are key to us having any chance of staying up Potts imo wasn’t key to promo although he would have Been a good Championship inclusion for us but he wanted away so it wS a meh imo rightly or wrongly . If we are in an impossible position at end of January then you could be right but if we are still in the mix then imo not a chance . Especially as we can probably still get good money at end of season .
Do you know what....if he persists with the same strategy and line up...i would actually try dougall at right back.
It’s interesting that Brown is getting a few negative comments in this thread. Whilst not at his best he didn’t do too much wrong and major assists with 2 of the goals.
