...and I just had a lovely warm thought... (no not that kind). I was thinking that up till the end of WW2 it was very tough trying to get medical treatment for the average person. Damned hard, damned expensive. Getting a serious illness was just that -serious. Then, one day, a new idea got introduced which was that if anyone got poorly or got worried about their health they could go and see a doctor or nurse for free! Imagine that. You could even get treated for free as well, even if you were totally skint! What an absolutely wonderful, beautiful idea that was. It is, in the big scheme of things, one of the most wonderful things the government has ever done for its people. Absolutely wonderful. Goodwill to all, not just for Xmas but from cradle to grave. Over many years the number of people helped, cured or simply comforted must have run into millions. Better than any war! A wonderful thing..
Anyway, that's what I thought after reading this board and it made me realize how lucky I have been. It was just a very pleasant thought and since I had nothing better to do I just thought I'd post. Why not?
    Regards.

I feel so lucky that I could have my 3 wonderful children being cared for under the NHS. Apart from the odd ear/ chest infections I haven't had to use it for myself but knowing that if I have any health niggles I can go to the gp is great. The thought that in America parents wait till it is too late often in the case of things like meningitis because of the cost fills me with horror

If I'd been born in most other countries I would no longer be alive. I'm stitched up, patched up and fc*ked up but I'm still here.

You can vote for a political party that will ensure people like me live or you can vote for one that will ensure they'll die. It's that simple. It really is.

Aye, I think many take it for granted. Familiarity breeds complacency in this respect

The Tory’s just spout that everyone’s point scoring when we bring up the NHS and it’s plight. When in actual fact we are genuinely concerned and can see just what these cuts and privatisation is doing .

Yeah i read recently an article about how a growing number of GP practices now are owned by American companies. The privatisation is by stealth.

Heres an interesting article, a few years old now but interesting read

Austerity has put us back to the eighties whilst the richest have raked wealth in faster than they ever could have dreamed .
Our public services are the only hope of the majority of this nation and the NHS is the dearest of them all imo .
I’ve heard people calling for certain people to be barred from using the service Drug addicts etc and Austerity fuels this with a divide and rule .
The NHS is special because it treats us all equal and that’s why they hate it so much we must never let them divide us on this and fight tooth and nail for care for everyone without exception or prejudice it’s what makes us civilised .

The patriotically named Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) has seen a big opportunity in working with the NHS since 2006. The company has formed what it calls HCA NHS Ventures, which are partnerships with NHS trusts to provide clinics and hospitals. Though a part of the NHS, these facilities serve only private patients.

As I said earlier who was in government in 2006?

Take it you didn't vote for them then?
Even they managed to leave the Country totally skint like every other Labour government in history.
