It will never happen again. It will go Labour again next time. This election has transpired to be what Sky News called it - the Brexit election. It will prove that if you **** about with people on the issue of basic democracy, then they will make you suffer and nothing else matters.

On that basis why have the Tories shone through ?
It’s they that delivered a referendum and didn’t deliver the result .

Predictions it will also happen in Penistone & Stocksbridge, (my constituency), Wakefield, and Rother Valley.

    Turkeys voting for Christmas. Depressing.

I can almost understand wealthy people, tax avoiders and those with huge investments voting Tory to protect their interests; but working class people in an area that has been so blighted by the conservatives. It makes no sense.

too many people blinded by brexit. But labour should have seen that. The feeling around here for likes of cooper and trickett has been really toxic. All you mention has stupidly taken a back seat in most people’s minds because they voted leave. Labour should have continued to say they would honour the referendum vote, that way people may have listened to their actual policies and they may at least have forced a hung parliament

More angry than sad. I'm already resident in a different country from my wife thanks to Brexit but this goes beyond such personal considerations. The list of predicted Conservative gains beggars belief. I will never understand how some of those areas can vote Tory.

    Possibly so ,
I’m sure an investigation will follow to see why ,
But it doesn’t make me feel any better that all the above categories will come back to haunt those that have ignored them in this election .

Utterly depressing. Brexit has decided it. Farage has eaten into the Labour numbers.

Yes, but then where do all those many Labour Remain voters go if you don't promise a referendum or to cancel Brexit? Answer: Lib Dems.

It might be it gives a better result, hard to say but I'm not sure it would have stopped a Tory win.

    Divide and rule.

Interesting watching the debate between the head of momentum , ed balls and Alan Johnson on TV tonight. Momentum guy just deluded. I've said it here before, waste of time having policies if you're unelectable. Having a tour round the country with fifty accolytes chanting your name doesn't cancel out decades of terrorist sympathy and dog whistle anti sematism. Hope they rebuild and get back next time, wonder if they will

I doubt all the Labour remainers would have deserted labour like the leavers have. The Conservative remainers haven’t. (Though that maybe because they wouldn’t vote Corbyn.). I think people just wanted to see the vote honoured. I know a lot of remainers who have said fair enough we lost let’s get on with it.

Labour should have just said how they would try to leave not sit on the fence or try to stop brexit

I know I did, for the first time, in 2017 and over Brexit. I voted Labour tactically and in vain this time around but I would have found it hard to vote for a party that had a hard policy I disagreed with so strongly. Labour's much derided position did at least make it easier for me to vote for them again.

The bizzare thing is that jezza is a brexiteer. Lots of left wing reasons why aswell. He chose not to make that his issue. His dedication to creating chaos as an harbinger of Marxism got the better of him. Imagine if he'd made the case, dragged his party with him?? Different result tonight?????

To all those who have just returned Boris and Co to power... Get ready to reap what you sow

A sorry state of affairs for those less fortunate than most...
Shame on them all for returning Boris back to power
