Not that im complaining cause we hardly get one but does anyone think Woodrow played for it? He knocked ball past the Defender and knew what he was doing and ran into him. Thats way i saw it and others round me
Looked a pen to me. And tbh even if he did to some extent "buy" it, the amount of joke penalties we've conceded since our last one at Oakwell in the Championship and stonewallers we've had turned down renders it irrelevant for me.
The ref had no other option for me. If he got through the lad he’s got a free shot at goal, any strikers dream. I don’t think it was as blatant as the two shouts in the first half mind, but that’s how things go at oakwell isn’t it? The one on Chaplin was ridiculous towards the half time interval. So I couldn’t believe my eyes are when the ref pointed to the spot for woodrow’s. But I think we should’ve had 3 pens yesterday.
Yes he played for it but yes it was a foul. Woodrow made most of it for sure. All the bad/soft pens weve gave away its about time we had one go for us....
Years ago it would have been obstruction and an indirect free kick. Nobody seems to get them any more, have the rules changed?
Yes. ‘Obstruction’ as a separate offence was taken out of the rules in the late nineties. ‘Impeding an opponent’ remains an offence punishable by an indirect free kick - but that is only where you get in the way but make no contact, i.e. you aren’t close enough to be in possession but you position yourself to get in the way of someone running on who has to go the long way round. Where there is contact which impedes, the foul can only be given as a direct free kick - or penalty if in the box. So the same offence described above would be a direct free kick or penalty as soon as contact is made (as long as it is deemed an offence obviously). I believe an indirect free kick in the box can only be given for handling a passback
Just watched the recap video. I can see why Conor thought he was fouled, but I don't think he was, the 2nd one should have been given though, and I reckon the only reason we got the penalty was because QPR were clearly riding their luck. In a related question; is it a new thing to foul someone then go down holding your face to try to avoid a card because you're 'hurt'? I think QPR avoided a couple of Yellow cards with this tactic yesterday.
1st home penalty since October 2016 when Sammy Winnall missed! I thought it was a new rule not to give us a penalty!
No real thoughts on the penalty ... but very surprised nobody thought/mentioned that diaby looked to be obviously offside for his goal. Clearly in front off JB & their last defender as far as I can tell.
Just looked at it again on iFollow - Hard to be certain but he does look to be ahead of the ball - definitely ahead of his marker but cant tell for certain if he is ahead of the blond haired defender - Dont think I could have complained if it had been given off looks off from what I can tell Brown onside QPR defender on the near side playing him on - not in shot when the ball played but scroll forward a few frames and as he comes into shot he is standing level with Brown wind back to where Brown was when Cauley plays him through and Brown must have been easily onside On a different question regarding the inept officials what exactly was Dougall booked for - the ref was reaching for his pocket as soon as he blew his whistle when Kenny hit the deck - it can only be diving or deliberate hand ball - a totally ridiculous decision amongst many - we seemed to be on the receiving end of most but that and the stopping the game and gifting them the ball because one of they players sat down with a poorly paw really took the biscuit On the Penalties - Woodrow Clear Pen - though surprised he gave it - if it was a pen shouldnt it have been a yellow card as well ? Chaplin - stone wall pen - we never get those Brown - I think the defender just got the ball - in the seen em given against us category but not a pen for me - outside the box its a foul all day long but it seems inside as long as you touch the ball first you can clean out the player
