    I think VAR is likely to reach the Championship long before we reach the Premier League! But personally, I'd love us to get back there, no matter how lacking in integrity the league is these days. Is the Championship really any different?

    VAR if run properly should give teams like us a chance . Remember the Premier league when we were in it. That dion Dublin dive, the Liverpool match. And that's not to mention the penalty in the fa Cup at old Trafford. If VAR had been available then what would have happened?

    VAR could, if done right, stamp out the ref bias to big teams. Man U would have lost half their trophies had VAR overruled Mike Riley every game he gave them. The fact that he now runs VAR is a disgrace but its also the only way to stamp our corruption if done right

    But before VAR you'd have been pissed off with refs and lino's for being blind and or bent.

    VAR isn't wrong, what's wrong is you not being able to accept that you have to be accepting of being 1mm on or off side.

    Or ditch VAR and accept the decision of refs/lino's without being a moaning git... which is just not going to happen.

    It is wonderful however in its assertion that VAR is the future. Once topped and tailed.

    I’d like to know how accurate the equipment is. From the lines on the pitch he looked onside. The camera was not in line but apparently is calibrated to compensate.

    If he really is off then fair enough to disallow the goal. But if it’s in the margin of error of the system hmm

    It would seem preferable to letting a linesman who can't keep up with world class athletes at their prime making a decision in a split second based on a guess. The latter does wield a result that favours some teams over others . You can only assume why but it does happen

    Also consistency. Kane looked offside to me when the ball was played over leading to the handball but because that didn’t lead directly to a goal they don’t check it even if there is a goal from the resulting free kick

    In my youth, the referee controlled the game. Whether he was right or wrong was not the main issue, just so long as he made his decisions without fear or favour, they were accepted. Whether we like it or not, SKY now occupies the position of the referee. SKY decided that the game needs VAR so that there are more talking points and more interest generated by their coverage. SKY controls the game because SKY provides the funds that have taken the game to a higher level. SKY pays the piper, so SKY calls the tune. The supporter who used to be important are now simply a decoration. The threat of withdrawing their support is no longer valid. The match day fan is expected to sit there for 3 or 4 minutes, often in the dark about exactly what is happening, whilst people hundreds of miles away attempt to decide on the accuracy of the referees call, based upon a single fame of TV coverage. It has taken control from traditional areas and has given it to SKY and their TV audience.

    I am not a fan.

    Don't VAR unless it looks like a massive cockup.

    Give the coaches 2 appeals.

    The solution is simple and already exists but they simply don't want to use it.

    GPS belts exist. Players wear them generally speaking.

    The solution is to have players wear a standard issue belt with tracking facility on it. Have that linked to the VAR room and then they simply have to pause the footage the moment the ball is played forward. If sensor says the attacker is further forward then it's offside. If it doesn't it isn't. Would take a matter of seconds as they don't need to find the best footage or anything, they just need to find the moment that the ball was played and the computer tells them who's forward at that moment and who isn't.

    Or is it too simple to use technology we already have?

    Sky don't like VAR. VAR was implemented in countries without sky first

    Referees do show bias

    That would work or go like in Rugby where the ref can ask the 3rd official to check

    I was watching a rugby match this afternoon where the ref checked a forward pass It was marginal in fact I still can’t tell so not a clear error so went with the initial play on decision

    Oh and they show it on the screen so the crowd and ref view it together. Quite why they can’t do that in football is strange

    absolutely.... video assistance to the officials seems to work in all other sports except football... and it was in place in other football leagues before ours and seems to have settled in.... I have to wonder if this is just another inditement as to how inept the FA really is.

    It is. There is an official protocol for how to use VAR and we are the only country who do not abide by that protocol. In fact the FA and PGMOL (those who run referees in England) openly admit that they choose not to use the official protocol set out by the ?FIFA lawmakers.

    The trouble with VAR as far as I can see, is that whatever the technology shows, still has to be interpreted by a fallible human

    I think it has more to do with how powerful the clubs are.

    The FA have to be seen to be doing everything 100% by the book, no bias.
