The young players we have brought in have clearly got the quality, given time to hold their own in the Championship. The more games they play the more they will learn. The Struber effect and change in shape has clearly helped.
Can we agree that we can put out a team to give anyone in this league a contest when it comes to movement distribution and effort?
Stop making stupid mistakes and you stop conceding goals. Its pretty simple. One mistake one goal on boxing day. Make the opposition have to work for goals not just giving them away for free....
Can we now all agree that Stendal is not the Messiah many portrayed him as. A nice bloke. Decent coach. Nuff said.
Ime it will be some time before we have his like as manager again. Last season was phenomenal and if he'd been backed I think there was a chance this season could have been too. I like Struber though, seems to have a wise head on his shoulders in the way he's approached the job so far.
Phenomenal??? So much so we had to rely on Pompey and Sunderland to bottle it... produced great to watch football without doubt. But pretty football doesn't win games. Never had a plan B.
I can only speak from my personal viewpoint but it's the most enjoyable season I've had supporting Barnsley since 1996/1997. And that season we relied on Wolves amongst others stuffing up. And yes I do like to watch pretty football as that is a rarity most seasons. Maybe part of the reason they messed up was feeling the pressure of a good team coming up behind them? I hate the rewriting of history that goes on.
Given the only two clean sheets we kept were both in August it doesn't need repeating (but am doing so anyway) that the midfield and attacking play is obviously the one thing that has kept us in with a fighting chance of beating the drop. Without the Individual errors gifting goals, and as a result dropping at least six or seven points, we would be five or six places clear of the relegation zone seeing how tight it is. For that reason, and based on recent performances, and the fact that, but for the 'howler' from our goalkeeper we would have had our 3rd clean sheet of the season, I am still optimistic that either retaining what we have, and preferably adding a couple of experienced players will be enough to see us climb away from the relegation zone.
Agreed, last season truly was phenomenal, both subjectively in terms of the quality of the football we played, and objectively in terms of the stats. We annihilated many teams, we were I believe the best side in the league. We had the most shots, conceded fewest goals, kept the most clean sheets. I can't believe some can find a reason to criticise it, it was a wonderful season.
I like Stendal. I enjoyed the football we played. But what I dont get is the over eating, lording, pedastool status... great to watch but not always effective, we didnt win the league, and had nail biting end to season due to failure to kill off games. Daniel Stendal = Paul Hart with personality and rapport with fans
does over eating produce a pedastool?? you are entitled to your opinion re the above and Paul hart. I’ve a feeling you might be alone however.
I hate to see what you would write if yer dint like him. Messiahs dont come to Barnsley we get what nubdi else wants.
Stendal brought us attractive football... he brought us promotion... and very likeable fella by all accounts. But clearly out of depth in the championship with record run without a win, and now finding life tough in the scottish premiership... Anyway... let's get behind Struber. He at least seems able to motivate this squad of players and salvage our season after such a poor start under the phenomenal, sensational, the messiah that is Daniel Stendal.
You were the one to bring Stendel up in this thread gi thissen a pat ont back thas done what tha set out to do.
