I personally never carry cash. I use my card for literally everything. Was having this discussion with some mated the other day, wondered what the BBS consensus was.
Very little, if any. At the moment I’m completely cashless after putting my last £2.70 into a parking meter.
It's an age thing. Most of the old codgers like me carry cash and pay on the card for things like petrol, supermarket shops etc. My sons pay for everything on the card or even use their phone which I find baffling.
You sort of missed a step its a big jump from carrying a bit in case of emergencies to using cash for most things I carry cash and use it for smaller purchases in shops and bars etc - or sometimes use a card depending on the amount etc so more than just emergency use but its not really my main payment method Actually had to write a cheque yesterday to a B&B who didnt take cards !
I carry cash me, my cards let me down a few times when it comes to payment even though when i've nipped across the road after to withdraw money there was more than enough in the bank. Plus you look a right pillock at the front of the bar if there's a problem.
I think it depends where you live and the families around you. Several pubs, for example, don't take cards. If you don't have cash you'll go thirsty. And was it Cardiff where the turnstiles were cash only but the bars inside were cards only? Bizarre. As an aside, I'm in Austria from tomorrow for 2 weeks, and there cash is king. Our hotel doesn't take cards, many bars and restaurants don't, if you don't have cash you'll either go hungry/thirsty or you'll have a restricted choice. Even the places that take cards often "hint" that they'd prefer cash.
I remember one occasion when at a trade show in Munich a whole group of us went out to a restaurant - when one of the managers tried to pay by card it was a shock for him to find it was cash only- we finished up having a whip round and just about managed to scrape enough cash together for the bill - made the expenses claims a bit of a challenge
I very rarely carry cash. Getting a pint in the East Stand is about the only time it's needed nowadays.
Usually carry about £20 in cash just in case of emergency. I’ll use my cards or Apple Pay for everything.
Only ever use the card to withdraw cash and to use over the net.....never had a credit card. If we ever go anywhere that is card only and we didn't know in advance we will be bu99ered as we only take the card when we go to the cash point. Like it that way as if I haven't got it I can't spend it.
Very rarely unless we're going out to somewhere what only takes cash or we're going out at night. Can even pay with card in Alhambra for parking so no need for change there either. Mind you, our lass gets on at me nearly every day because I don't carry cash...
Definitely depends on the country. Russia used to be completely cash based until about five years ago. I've paid for a car and an apartment in cash before! Still feel nervous if I've got less than the equivalent of fifty quid in my pocket, though this is more due to habit. When I first arrived in the country and plastic being accepted was scarce, I'd regularly have £500 in my pocket and think nothing of it. Russians would carry a couple of grand with them, no problem. It was probably all the money they had in the world, but they obviously deemed it safer to hold it on their person than to leave it in their apartment, or, god forbid, a very unreliable bank.
I like to use cash. The personal contact I have handing this over to people hopefully keeps them in a job. I would rather spend 5 minutes in a queue (rarely more than this) than use self service tills or go round inputting on one's phone.
I very rarely worry about going out with cash on me. It's getting out the front door with it that's the problem!
Not many on here buy pies and drinks inside oakwell then. Nearly always have to sub my son if we want a coffee or summert.
Cash only....except buying online with credit card and then pay it off in full with cash....never used a debit card at all.
