No-one is talking about this game. No mention on the official website. It is the focus however of Crewe Alexandra's. I think they may want the result more than we do. Thoughts on the game - do we want a good cup run? Or would it be a distraction,.
I want a good cup run. Beating a Premiership side would be a good thing to remember from this season.
I want a good cup run, who doesn’t? It’s the reason we follow our football club up and down the country to have that opportunity of a day out at Wembley isn’t it? It might feel unlikely but no more than it did at the start of the 2008 season. I still love the fa cup, I won’t let any of this premier league nonsense change that for me.
Good points. I’ve heard quite a few dismissing the game because “we should concentrate on the league.” Christ if they really thought that they should have had a word with Conway over the Summer. I think we should “concentrate on the Cup.” It is likely to be the only joy we can attain this season. In terms of the game. Should be interesting. I think we tend to think of ourselves as a team that likes to play ‘proper football.’ Well, we’ll be playing a team two Divisions below us who think the same. I think Crewe are likely to approach the game with the attitude ‘come on then, let’s see who can play the best football’. If we don’t take the game seriously, I can see yet more humiliation for the Club, the Town and the fans. So for all our sakes I hope we give it a good go.
I'm going on Sunday and I hope we ******* batter them and get the confidence back up and a run going. There's nothing else going for us this season so to wish for us being out of the cup seems ridiculous to me.
It's an horrible away tie against one of the strongest sides in that league. If we win we are expected to so won't get much praise. If we can't beat a side two leagues below us then it would knock our players confidence when we are trying to stay up.
I reckon we might use this match to give the lads a much needed rest. To try to avoid the humiliation factor, we might play an under 23/boys side that wouldn’t be expected to win the match, thus turning the tables and making us underdogs
Not sure about this. After a very hectic and tiring schedule over the festive period, some will need a rest. I’m definitely in the camp of loving the FA Cup and wanting a decent run, but would understand if Struber put out a weakened team. Maybe a good opportunity to see what Styles, Mottley-Henry and a few others can do. Crewe will be a decent side though, that’s for sure.
Agreed, play the kids, not because it’s only Crewe, but out of necessity to rest some, even if we put out our strongest side we’ve only got 50/50 chance of winning.
Only way we can progress under this plan as a club is to stay up this year. Any physical advantage to staying up if that means resting players for this game i would. Play collins Cavare Diaby Anderson B Williams Dougal, Styles Bahre, Mcgeehan Wilkes Schmidt.
https://m.livesoccertv.com/match/3523308/crewe-alexandra-vs-barnsley/ Should be a link available somewhere as loads of countries have coverage of it.
For me I wouldn't play too many of the players we are offloading (or might be). I would give Wilkes a run if he's fit & McGeehan though. Collins J Williams, Diaby, Anderson, B Williams Dougal McGeehan Bahre Simoes Wilkes Schmidt Maybe bring on a few youngsters like Styles & Mottley-Henry later in the match.
Only so long as if we lose miserably we don't start complaining that there weren't any first teamers in there.
Agree with a lot of this but would play Sibbick at centre back and I’d probably play Styles instead of Bahre. Not too bothered about a cup run. Priority is the league.
