From the Edinburgh Evening News - Hearts are poised to appoint manager Daniel Stendel's assistant within the next week, the Evening News can reveal. Stendel had worked with Chris Stern and Dale Tonge at former club Barnsley and wanted both men to join him on the Riccarton coaching staff, but he could now recruit someone different. Contractual issues with Barnsley have made it difficult for Hearts to hire former Oakwell employees and Stendel has identified another unnamed candidate who is available to step in. Looks like Dale may have been better to accept the position we offered him ?
I'm sure that I read somewhere that he'd been offered a role at the club but had declined as he'd hoped to be taking up an alternative position. Sounds to me now that DS had tee'd up to take his assistants with him but it's been thwarted by the club. Seems to have gone quiet on the compensation front
Tonge was, but declined and left. Stern wasn’t and left. Possibly both paid off and in their settlement agreement they can’t work elsewhere until X amount of time has passed or that they forfeit part of their settlement if re-employed within 6 month period etc. Both are fairly usual for a manager, and to a lesser extent their assistants.
That's right stating that he would be back in football at another Club really soon. Hopefully taught him a valuable lesson for the future.
Dale ended up turning the role down as his partner is expected to give birth very soon. It was the right opportunity at the wrong time unfortunately.
You can look at it like that I suppose. Weird though. To choose unemployment over work when your missus is pregnant.
As has been stated re. Stendel he'll still be picking up a wage from Barnsley which gives him breathing space to look for something else Having time at home may be nice for them both during the pregnancy.
