Both Glenn Whelan and club captain Christophe Berra have criticised the way they've been treated by him, the latter being dropped to the reserves and told can leave two days after getting married. I've no idea whether what he's done is warranted as don't follow the SPL. I get that they need to get rid of the dead wood to free up funds for transfers, however if two veterans are criticising him like that it sounds like he's not been very classy about it. Berra is a Hearts fan too so must have been even harder to stomach.
By all accounts both were big time past it Charlie's. If you look on the hearts forum not many are showing much sympathy to their plight. Probably similar to Struber, he can only get new players in if some are released. Apparently Whelan was only there so he could carry on playing for Ireland and refused to do press interviews and trained part time. Not much give there if you're wanting the same sort of strong team spirit we have here.
Seems a strange one. Not sure about Berra but Whelan’s seen as a good bloke & leader, massive gamble to push him out
Looks like Daniel needs to work better on his man management skills. No player should be finding out via Whatsapp that he's not going to be involved.
I would imagine if either player showed they could work with him under his system then he'd give them a chance. However time is not on his side and he needs everyone pulling in the same direction. Might be too big a job for him, it certainly sounds as though there is a negative attitude and a lot of dead wood in the place. Time will tell
Still seems like a strange job to take on, fair play for giving it a go but i think he's on a hiding to nothing up there
He shouldn't have taken the job so soon after his sacking with Barnsley. I remember Paul Hart saying the reason he was such a flop at Barnsley is because he was still hankering over his beloved Forest.
Technically he’s listen to fans. Hearts fans were saying they need to get rid of them both when I was reading their forum. Having said that if they came in for cavare and wilks they will probably keep them up as the league is very weak!
Whelan is almost 36 Berra is almost 35 Naismith is also knocking on. There's experience and then there's pinching a living.
Based on the shambles I watched on Boxing Day I'd say none of the Hearts players could complain if they are dropped.
On the plus side, they'll not get far up the field so when the opposition pass it round the press they'll still have someone back to defend.
If you're form is as awful as it is, the players, especially the more experienced need to stand up, if not, get rid.
