As per usual - there’s going to be countless people reading this thread and agreeing with Young Nudger. But because it’s Young Nudger they bite their tongue.
PS - my grandad was from County Mayo. My mother was a very Irish Catholic. I’ve been brought up largely in that tradition. I’ve been to Ireland several times with my relatives. The Irish ....... like my experience with the Scottish ......... hate us. With a vengeance. .
Yer right - people do hate me. But when I’m with others and they hate them as well - then you have to question why.
I’m descended from Mayo Nudge. Yes, I’m an immigrant I’m afraid. Are you sure you are from the Green and Red County. You’ve become a bit of a disappointment with some of your attitudes, if you really are from Mayo.
It was a really awkward birds and bees conversation with his parents when he was a nipper.....what his dad actually said was " Cum like mayo"
There's quite a lot of English people that hate that culture unfortunately... one of the driving forces behind Brexit
I’ve disowned the Irish side because of attitudes towards me and others in my family while in Ireland. But I’ve close relatives still living over there - who are great. I’ve said this before - Dermot Earley (who I look like) was a relative. Owners of Foxford Mills are relatives. My grandfather who admitted had made a good life over here and had 8 children over here - did not like the English and flew the Irish tricolour at every opportunity. I’ve not had as much contact with the Scottish in Scotland - but what I have had is just as bad. Horrible negative attitude. I’m out and out English.
it’s quite odd how we see ourselves isn’t it. I was born in Barnsley as were my parents and three of my grandparents. But I’d consider myself: Irish South Yorkshire Northern European. erm....that’s it. I’d be a little offended by any other label.
Still in operation - Glenelg (mainland) to Kylereah (skye) - well worth the drive This is a view from just above the ferry at Kylereah, looking towards the mainland View From Kylerhea - HDR by Lez501, on Flickr[/IMG]
I'm also descended from Mayo. Callaghan, Lonergan and Caine are my bloodlines (among others I would guess)
That's complete and utter rubbish. I've been in Ireland nearly three years now and never had as much as a cross word from anyone. How do you explain that then?
So what you're saying is that everywhere you go you get a bad reaction from people. How do you explain that then?
