    This comment nails it

“A colossus. Another example of how things turn out when we don’t rush a player into the first team”

We did exactly the same with him, got him up to speed, played him when ready.

Now only if we’d done that with the current two!

Yep, in past seasons we've basically operated a conveyor belt system of centre backs where we have one well established, one relatively new to the first team, and one in reserve. We sell the established one, shunt the other 2 up in seniority and then sign a new reserve to be gradually integrated.

    Mawson>Roberts>Macdonald>Lindsay>Pinnock.

Sometimes it doesn't work exactly like that (such as Jackson who never fully stepped up to be the established CB) but generally speaking we've kept one CB with first team experience. And it has worked well, as the one who becomes the senior CB has experience of the club and the system and the reserve has the benefit of months of training and is ready to step up. Selling both CBs at once and asking 2 young lads with no experience of the team or league was never going to end well unless we were exceptionally lucky.

No great surprise - Integral part of the best defence in L1 last season and now part of the best defence in the Championship
absolute steal if they got him for £3Million.

The post likening him to Des Walker is spot on. Hope we’ve got a big sell-on percentage...

Having warmed to him much later than most, I went on to think he was phenomenal. He's got everything. He will be Premier League player.

Not really surprised. He’s absolutely quality. I was more surprised that he wasn’t starting regularly at the beginning of the season.

My mate is a Brentford fan and he said after a dodgy start he's one of the best centre halves they have had

No suprise, could see he was far too good for league one last season and was the standout defender in the best defence in league one.
Wish he was still here a center back who can defend, pass and is comfortable on the ball.

I agree with the posts but the moment has passed and we need to get on with it. Just one of many examples where Conway has come up short in his decision making.

Cream always comes too the top.
I can remember saying on here that im sometimes lucky enough to attend games with footy scouts and they were all taliking about pinnock and behre...but mainly pinnock...loads of scouts. Thats why i constantly came on here and voiced my opinions on letting him go very very cheap. There were also opinions on this board saying he wasnt that good .........lyndsey was better .....he hadnt set the championship alive etc etc.
Kid is class, wonder what Brentford sell him for!!

Rolls Royce footballer. Excellent Centre half.

In my opinion the best performer for us we’ve sold in that position this decade, and 3 others have played in the prem, in Mawson, Holgate and Stones.

Desperate for a centre half this month aren't we? the two lads yesterday are far short of what we need in this league, we looked terrible at the back again. It’ll cost us if we don’t act.

He’s a cracking player and the only one of the departed players that would have made one iota of difference this season.

I've nothing to add, my feelings have been expressed by the other posts.

Just gutted he's no longer a Barnsley player.

Casts into sharp relief what terrible business we did selling him for a paltry sum.

I think had lindsay stayed he is better than the 2 centre backs we have currently, although always thought pinnock was the best we had last season.

Would love to know who had that opinion! Thankfully I don’t recall seeing it, but someone was on Twitter last night slating Brown for doing ‘nothing but assist’ so who knows .......

They definitely were quite a few at the start of last season who had the opinion that lindsay was the better of the two. But we hadn't seen much of pinnock in his 1st season he was out of favour and then got injured. These posters got less and less as the season went on, but they was still a couple who had that opinion. They was a poster who doesnt post much now (cant remember his name)who really rated lindsay as the better of the two.
