Not defending it, recruitment has been crap particularly at the back. ONE person who signed in August has gone out on loan. You said loads. If you're going to say daft stuff expect daft replies :)

The positives about signing such young players on long term deals is that we don't have to write them off half a season into their contracts with Barnsley FC.

By the way there's no chance we loan Schmidt out so i dont know where you've got that from.

Pretty much the whole XI barring Mowatt has been signed the past 18 months haven't they? Or are you going to change your tune again now I've pointed this out?

Wilks sounds like the kind of guy that wouldn’t fit into Strubers plans. I see the potential in him and I like the kid but we need Lads in the trenches at the minute and he isn’t one who appears to want to muck in

The others gone out aren’t a big loss, I thought Mcgeehan looked out of his depth in this league too

It’s looking like we’re trimming the squad to bring more in

Our entire team except Mowatt basically has been signed in the last 18 months so 10-17 are playing regularly and the rest aren’t. Maybe we should start playing with 20 players so that more can play regularly

Somebody on another thread hit nail on head when referring to a player already recruited to replace Woodrow when sold in the Summer(although he got the player wrong), some of these players would have been signed with a view of developing for the future, so it’s not really surprising to see them loaned out.
This makes the point of the spreadsheet being broken etc open to debate as you can only judge it at the end of their contracts and even then some will be judged on did they perform successfully for the first team and some did they make money.

Same clowns that were here when we recruited all of the following players post 2014-15 who've since moved on:

Adam Davies, Andy Yiadom, Marc Roberts, Angus MacDonald, Ethan Pinnock, Alfie Mawson, Liam Lindsay, George Williams, Marley Watkins, Josh Scowen, Conor Hourihane, Sam Winnall, Kieffer Moore...

I could name a similar list of players who weren't good for us. But I'd be making the same point again. That our recruitment is hit and miss. But more hit, in my opinion, when taking into account where we shop, how we shop.

Had some cracking loans too. And garbage ones.

We're still in the same situation in terms of league position as we were when we moved to this approach, Championship strugglers. But we're running a healthy ship, we are one of a tiny minority of clubs that aren't in debt.

Nothing wrong with our recruitment in my eyes. I just wish they'd up the age-range more often. Glad they're coming around on that a little.

Agreed, the easiest way I explained our recruitment policy to Premier league fans, is we are a poor mans Chelsea. Chelsea used to swallow up all the young players knowing full well they would win on some more not on most. Couple of differences though in with Chelsea shopping in Waitrose they can send a lot out on loan and cover their costs, knowing every so often they will find some Harrods players. We shop in Aldi, which restricts that option, but means we are more likely to get a higher success rate of Tesco players, some Sainsbury players and occasional Waitrose.

Think you need to be patient. Mowatt came via spreadsheet and went out on loan not long after. Turned out the spreadsheet was right with him ;)

    I agree with the OP.
Last January we signed Miller and Green who are out on loan and Simoes. They have a grand total of two starts between the three of them. Miller can't get in the Scunthorpe side and regularly fails to make the match day squad.
McGeehan signed a new contract in the summer and is out on loan. This is his second loan spell. He was shipped out last time we were in the Championship because it was painfully obvious he wasn't up to it. Who thought it would be different this time round is anyone's guess. He was at Scunthorpe last time round who started him just 3 times. Let's see what Portsmouth do.
Wilks was signed in the summer and after some truly awful displays is out on loan. There's talk of Sibbick going too, who may as well as we haven't seen him during Struber's tenure.
The argument that a lot of the new signings are playing and therefore a success is a nonsense. They're playing because they have to, because we have no one else, because everyone who shows even a modicum of competence is sold.
They're playing and have us in the relegation places.
Andersen and Diaby are the worst centre back pairing in the 40+ years I've been watching Barnsley. Not the worst players, they both have potential, but the worst regular pairing by some distance. Their inclusion in the team as a pairing is the biggest give away of just how broken our transfer policy is.
Thomas is playing regularly but he's a winger in a system that doesn't use wingers. The best description of his performances I can muster is average.
Bahre, signed permanently in the summer, has been dragged off the pitch within half an hour the last twice he was selected.
Schmidt leaves the pitch cleaner than he enters it. He's touched the ball about 5 times since his arrival. We bring him on and we voluntarily go down to 10 men.
Radlinger isn't as good as Davies. He just isn't. Under any criteria you wish to judge. Collins may well be in the long term but as he's not being selected I'm struggling to call his signing a successful one.
So of all the players we have signed in the last 12 months, who has been successful?
After a slow start Chaplin has now found his feet and his partnership with Brown is a joy to watch. Defences can't handle their pace and tenacity.
    Other than that?
Oduor looks to have bags of potential and has put in a couple of very good performances. But let's not forget he's only played six times. He's still learning, particularly at left back, he looks like a winger to me, and he's going to have some very tough matches. I hope we don't overplay him and ruin his confidence, but then his potential replacement haven't looked up to it.
Halme is getting better and better, but he's still learning on the job too. He's already been overplayed because, despite the size of the squad, we seriously weaken the team if we leave him out. That's a ridiculous situation to be in when you can't afford to rest a young player who is still a long way short of where he'll eventually be.
It's been an appalling 12 months in the transfer market. Millions have been wasted on seriously weakening the team and we're now desperately trying to get players out of the door, either on loan or permanently, so we can afford to pay the wages of the replacements for players we've had less than 12 months, who might give us a fighting chance of staying in the division. And we'll still be weaker than before we started.

    Always doom and gloom.
What I think when I see the majority of these lads play is, if these lads stay in this league and grow playing this style of football we'll be doing alright.

Mistakes tend to reduce with experience and if we keep the crop we have and make additions we'll be a team to reckon with and those winning performances where we play teams off the park will become more frequent.

Yes they may need an experienced player or too at the moment to guide them along but the only way they'll realise the potential everyone clearly sees is playing games and if that means that for those on the fringe going somewhere else for 6 months then so be it.

Look at Stefan Payne and similar players who weren't quite ready with us but have gone on to bang goals in. We've had more hits than misses.
