Vaz Te was the most exciting to watch in the last 10 years. If we had kept him for the season maybe things would have been different.
Now, now Young Man. To be more pedantic, On yr definition that would make Cliff Richard an Indian, Terry Butcher a Singaporean, Emma Watson French and Owen Haregreaves Canadian.
The point I was trying to make in my OP was that there is a lack of sucess with foreign players and I should have added players signed directly from foreign leagues. Regardless of birth, all those players referred to so far had substantial experience in the UK before we signed them. I just think we are compounding the chances of the rate of failure in taking punts on young players (as our sole recruiting policy) by bringing in young players from lower or lesser leagues outside of the British Isles. I think the empirical evidence appears to back that up. So far only Colace, Muller and the two hungarians seem to have had broken that belief and they were over a decade ago
On reflection I'm going to agree with you on cavare. Thought he was good last season at that level, hence he should be regarded as a success. I really liked him (came over and shook hands after Accrington away) and wanted him to step up this season but clearly struber doesn't like him. I don't think I'd have chucked the new lad in today, especially out of position, perhaps cavare may have done a better job, but I fear he's not going to get a second chance after middlesborough which seems unfair as others have been as bad
Ok, ok...I've refined the op. It's not about where the players are actually from, it's the strategy of signing players with a lack of experience of British football and lengthening the odds of unearthing a young talent by taking young lads from lower leagues abroad who must suffer great upheaval and are chucked in at the deep end. I really felt for Ludwig tonight, should never have been put straight in and out of position too, not a way to develop a player
Have to agree Jake. At times I could see why he was signed and I think he has some spirit. Needs sticking in the u23s and bringing on slowly. But...if struber wants to drop Ben Williams for having a bad game and won't pick cavare for the same reason, there isn't anybody else.
We are running a system parallel to the Red Bull method. It's a formula which is not working but giving Kudos to the owners, who will be hoping to sell the club in the summer.
