When saw that second goal v Preston i was shocked that as a CH pulled very wide and having the ball at his feet why he didn't just put it out like a basic play. But he didn't and for the life of me i cant think what was going through his mind. I did wonder how much he had progressed since start of season. And that move alone made me think - not much. But he is young and needs a development plan. Playing week in week out at this level with various centre halves alongside who also haven't shown improvement or error free progress isn't a development plan for him. I think he needs a step out, maybe even a loan to a L1/2 side to build his confidence. For now we need the best pairing we can get and i dont see him in that two.
I hope I’m wrong but no. Goals we’ve conceded this season are not only worst I’ve seen in a red shirt. Is on par with Sunday league defending. I can see improvements from but not as a professional footballer. I’ll still get behind him though as it’s a new match tomorrow and I hope he makes me eat my words. Coyr
Agree with most of that, though I still feel Dougall needed a run of games to get back into the swing of things. Unfortunately we don't have that luxury at the moment. Cup match aside, it's time to sink or swim now. I'm also really disappointed by the Diaby situation. Personally I'd have liked to have seen Diaby learning alongside Sollbauer. I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, but he has a physical presence and with a bit of extra coaching he could be a real asset.
The Fulham game he looked so composed and him and Diaby looked solid. I left the ground thinking ‘wow the recruitment team have done it again with centre backs’ but then it went downhill fast. Since Struber I thought he improved up until the Derby game and he’s gone back to woeful. I think next to an experienced centre back, he could be decent.
I think in a couple of seasons time we will be gutted when he is leaving for a few million. Players take time to settle in to the country, area, way of life, type of football etc. The lad is committed, enthusiastic, cares and gives his all trying to play a new way under a new manager in an inexperienced team at a higher level than he has played before. I think we can cut him some slack for a while.
Like you say its not his fault and will get better, any venting that anybody wants to do should be at the manager or the board. Im impressed with the fact that he continues to play out from the back even though he his getting pelters because thats how his coach wants him to play. His coach knows that in the longer term it will benefit the player, the team and the club. If Struber didnt want Radlinger to pass to Anderson to play out then im sure it would have been stopped by now.
Who's the two then? Because Halme is needed in midfield unless we sign a genuine holding midfielder, which Dougall isn't.
Halme and Sollbauer Oduor if fit and Williams Cauley, Ritzmeir and Mowatt -Brown and Thomas or Dougal Chaplin Whats yours?
I'm sure he can get better. Don't think he'll ever be the Alan Hansen Struber wants him to be though. He's made a few defensive errors and if those were the only mistakes he'd made I don't think people would be so critical of him. It's the mistakes he makes when in possession of the ball that are by far the more numerous and most costly. Yet we insist on passing to him from every goal kick and instruct him to carry the ball forward and play precise passes into feet in tight areas. It exposes every limitation he has. I don't think it's fair. I still haven't got over the penalty I missed playing for the school team 40 years ago. Andersen gives a goal away every week in front of at least 12,000 people. I'd be shivering and crying in a corner wishing for oblivion.
I think that shows the lad has a good character. He looked devastated on Tuesday night. I hope he can come good. When my son wanted to go from midfield to defence I asked him if he was sure cos he'd get all the blame for any goals that were conceded.
Yes I think this is our best team right now. Hopefully all available today so we can see how they do.
I think the extra height at set pieces in both boxes is important when Halme plays that position, given we haven't a lot of aerial power up front.
