Today, after being instructed to play the most insane tactics, Collins decided no longer to play them anymore. He put the ball on the edge of the six yarder, after we'd been awarded a goal kick, and launched the ball into the opposition half. He then turned to our fans and raised his arms to encourage us to cheer. This happened. Because we've got one player in our squad who won't just follow this fc*king insanity. And he'll be dropped the next game. I'm with you Collins.
I saw some of his goal kicks on the stream and tbh they did seem to go straight to the opposition. I thought a plus pount of Struber was that he made it simple, it was clear what they had to do. If this is 5 he case and Collins 8snt dong it then 8 would expect Struber to drop him.
He can’t command his 6 yard box. I’d expect that on a Sunday morning. we’ve conceded two from the keeper not collecting inside his 6 yard box. Not good enough. Today settles the Goalkeeping situation for me. Collins maybe good long term but for now, no not for me.
Maybe but surely you would want yer keeper to be comfortable with the tactic being asked to play or leave him out.
One woeful 'goal kick' that bounced off Marquis and nearly went in. Absolutely nowhere for two other crosses that led to goals. He's awful, I'd have no confidence in him coming to claim any ball in his own 6 yard box, let alone outside it.
Many people were watching it on the stream and pitying the poor sods who had travelled all the way to watch it at Portsmouth. My take on it was, after the above Collins error, the home crowd started taking the piss. A few minutes later there was a period where we had about 10 consecutive throw-ins down the right hand side and the crowd were olé-ing us. There were a few close-ups of the crowd who were laughing. It just felt like the little confidence the players have was draining further away and you could see a Preston-style capitulation coming. I switched off at half-time because I thought another half of that might give me PTSD.
Collins made saves but the rest of his game was as bad as Radlingers. We didn't look as pacicked at the back, we just played very badly all over the pitch. We simply couldn't retain the ball. It's very easy to judge but what was obvious about our latest acquisition was that he cannot jump. Beaten easily in the air for their third and did little to help prevent the fourth. Times his tackles well though he goes to ground unnecessarily. Teams will take quick throw ins before hes back in his feet. Would expect his leadership qualities to come through but what I thought we needed, alongside experience, was someone dominant in the air, given how poor our goalkeepers are. We seem to concede alot of sloppy goals from not clearing our box
Both keepers are a massive downgrade on Davies. There is little to choose between the two but Collins May have more long term potential
While i agree p*ssing around at back trying to be like Barcelona with the goal kicks is futile its just as futile to be punting goal kicks up to our 3"9 centre forwards as we know its coming straight back. We some how need to get it to the feet of our playmakers in midfield without giving Anderson the chance to mess up or Chaplin to obviously not win the headers....
i thought he was actually apologising. hes clearly been told to pass it anderson, he didnt want to do it but wasnt clever enough or brave enough to tell anderson to F**k off up the pitch. instead he passed it to anderson who booted it about as far as my 5 year old and about as accurate. i actually understand why he didnt want to boot it long as we have got midgets up front, however brown at least challenged for a few headers when we eventually changed the tactic
I wasnt there but was Collins getting any grief off our fans like Radlinger gets at Oakwell for playing the ball out, if so was Collins reaction to the fans this time more to do with making a point to the crowd how ineffective it can be lumping it up front or was it definitely making a point to Struber that playing out doesnt work. Either reaction wont help because its Strubers decision what we do not the fans or the players.
