It's not as, if he didn't have choices about who to pass to, yet he picked out the only blue shirt within 20 yards.
Apart from Cauley's goal we had little to celebrate yesterday. We were second best all over the park. The goal kick by Collins was poor but the most embarrassing incident for me, was the attempted throw in by Williams. No wonder the Portsmouth fans were laughing at us.
Out of context the Collins error looks really bad. Actually, in context it still looks really bad. I'm not trying to excuse the error. But there is a reason it happened. If the full match highlights are available I'd urge you to watch the preceding 5 minutes. Collins continued to play as instructed, giving the ball to Andersen who was dropping into our area to receive it. We kept losing the ball in our half. Each time Collins did this the Barnsley fans were getting more and more frustrated, venting their anger at Collins. The Portsmouth fans were taking the piss, if we managed a pass to a fellow red, a rare occurrence, it was greeted with ole from three sides of the ground. Championship, you're having a laugh, rang out round the stadium. Collins was getting visibly upset by what was happening, knowing he was supposed to give it to Andersen, knowing that would be met with howls of derision from the Barnsley fans, laughter from the Portsmouth fans and the loss of the ball yet again in our own half. He lost his head, booted it (you can see Andersen expecting the ball in the footage) and you can see what happened. Watch Tykes TV to see and hear the crowd reaction of what's going on
The keepers really aren’t happy are they? And you can see why. What with this and Radlinger’s reaction at half time on Tuesday, it’s easy to see that they are peed off with the tactics. I know it’s a case of what the head coach says goes but you’d think that the head coach might change it up if the players are so disillusioned by it.
I agree. But most of the league are doing it too. It cost Fulham at least 2 goals today. I get the point of it. And when confident it can work. But when you look shakey, it has to be changed.
this is spot on, he was stuck between a rock and an hard place with anderson wanting to receive the ball, dare say his choice won as they didn't score! he probably wasn't amused by their ball boy mugging him off 2nd half numerous times too ;-)
No excuse. As a professional footballer he needs to keep his head, Anderson does and he gets more abuse.
