In an attempt to be positive and optimistic and Barack "yes we can" Obama like:

That actually looks achievable until you look at our defence

 

7 wins ain’t bad but we will lose more than 5

 

That’s 26 points from a possible 51.

1.53 points per game which if we had achieved so far this season we’d be just inside the top 10.

Possible? Maybe, but it’s a big ask.

Maybe 4th bottom will be less than 50.

 

You might be thereabouts with 5 draws, but the wins and defeats I fear are expecting far too much.

We’ve only managed 5 wins in 29 games, so realistically would need the defence to become the polar opposite of what they’ve been all season, and for the attack to have lots of games like Qpr when everything we hit went in.

Fat lady might not be singing just yet, but I’d book her because there’s every chance she’ll be needed for the end of the season.

 

Unfortunately, we concede almost 2 goals a game (54 from 29 games).

This means we need to score 3 goals for each win and 2 goals for each draw, so 31 goals.

Anyway, if we can't beat Charlton then that's it ( having watched yesterday's performance, I can't see any other outcome than relegation, just being realistic rather than negative ).

I think our best hope is that Charlton, Luton and Wigan all continue to be terrible for the next 3 months and we only need 45ish points to survive, then we’ve got a chance. Realistically we need 7 or 9 points from the games against those 3.

 

He’s going to have to do it all at home I think. It’s difficult to see where away points will come from.

Things will be a bit clearer after next couple of games. Charlton and Wednesday are ones we really need to show up for and have plenty of energy and attitude.

If we roll over in both, then it’ll be a real uphill battle.

 

Are we allowed to say this is just nonsense without being attacked, for like applying logic to the situation? I'm guessing not. I'm going to be called all sorts of names because I don't live in fantasy land.

I don't see that being enough and they are my most optimistic predictions.

 

Average for survival is just over 49 points, lowest is 44, I can see it being around this point to survive this year.
So 20 points from 17 games. If we applied this points ratio to now we would be on 34 points, which whilst more points than so far would still have us down bottom looking over our shoulders.
In short it is possible, but we need to get back to how we was before the last 2 games.
Equally if we are not careful we could be going to Leeds knowing if they beat us they could relegate us

......well after tonight’s results Maybe 50 is going to be 4th bottom.

current 4th bottom Charlton only need 20 more points to get there from 17 games, that’s 1.17 points per game, doable as over a season that would have them finish on 54 points, so they only have to improve slightly on what they’ve already done.

It’s not looking good.

 

The teams least equipped to compete in the division tend to go down. Barnsley fall into that category this season so relegation seems very likely. We can only hope they put up a fight and stay in with a chance of survival for as long as possible.
