No that's not how it works, it is though a complicated system. Much of the business is done by a process of three stage majority voting. Member States representing 65% of the EU population are enough to pass a law....so the threshold for blocking is 36%...made by a minimum of four countries opposing. UK leaving has really put the cat amongst the pigeons though, better explained by this article recently in the German press. "With Great Britain, one of the largest countries is now leaving the EU. The percentage of the EU population in the other countries is therefore increasing. Before Brexit, for example, the Germans provided 16.2 percent of the population, after that their share was 18.6 percent. This effect has ramifications. So far, for example, the top ten net recipients in the EU (including Spain, Romania, Greece, Portugal and Hungary) have theoretically not been able to reach a blocking minority, as they represent only 31 percent of the population. That changes with Brexit, now they come to 36 percent."
Can anyone name an EU directive or regulation that has been adopted against the wishes of the UK government?
I’m not totally clued up on how it works but what I do know is at some point laws that are passed have come through a ratification process that involved representatives of our country voting on EU laws. Has as been stated no laws have been thrust. Upon against our will maybe against certain political party’s wills as they’ll be fors and against across ours and all other eu countries political party’s .
hestletine also pointed out that the 'left' of politics also wanted rid of our EU membership, I dont agree with you that 'democracy' moved in because in my eyes the EU parliament was nothing more than another part of the ultimate goal of a federal europe, the fact that we get the chance to vote for MEP's makes little difference as to what goes on and gets passed by the commisioners and the parliament, the block voting system is another thing that we have (had) little influence over Anyway we are out,i'm not gloating,I never wanted to be part of it in the first place and I also think that we wont be the last member to leave,it'll be interesting to see what happens over the next five or ten years in relation to this
we’ll have to go along with everything the US throws at us now except the little unimportant victories the US will let us have so the British Media will have something to keep us happy .
It'll be close to the US or close to the EU, otherwise both our prosperity and our influence will suffer. I actually think that now the clamour is about to die down Boris - being a pragmatist - will have us standing much closer to the EU.
I think it's a safety mechanism to justify the rants we see, I dont believe for one min 70 % of Barnsley are thick, racist, morons, imbeciles, rerards but I do believe it offers comfort and a sense of " winnings arguments" by throwing comments like these out, tbf it probably shows Indirectly) a lack of intelligence on the part of the name caller ( whichever side that maybe )
But you still can't tell us which EU laws that are FORCED UPON US you are against? You can't tell us one tangible benefit of Brexit without spouting rhubarb like taking or country back or sticking it to Brussels. Please could you explain the obvious positives you see regarding Brexit? Without using the phrases 'remoaners', 'we won get over it' and 'snowflakes'. Many thanks.
Our wee dog is scared of fireworks. In November, round here they were letting off fireworks for five days before and a week after Bonfire Night, then we had a repetition over New Year and you're right TM, we suffered a full thirty minutes from 11 pm last night. It's totally unnecessary.
I hope you’re right but I have a feeling the Euro Sceptics will push him towards the US then we’ll be at the Whim of whichever Dictator they elect .
What's this got to do with name calling ? I never mentioned laws being forced upon us, or tangible benefits of Brexit, or taking the country back Nobody as to explain to anybody why they voted a certain way regardless of which way they voted for, I know many who voted remain and the reason they voted to remain is 1, Nothing to do with me 2, it's there choice 3, I dont give a fat rats arse 4, i certainly wouldnt ask them to justify there own personal reasons like you appear to be asking ? When people of both sides voted 3 years ago you didnt have to sit down and explain your reason for voting either way, giving a reason for your vote was never a caveat to vote.
