..most of the team are really 'cr*p' as many people on here say, or are simply inexperienced, not ready and lacking guidance and leadership? I know it is a moot point, but I see some individual talent out there. As I type this a great move and we pull one back.
I think the better players are demoralised and it shows, they are probably frustrated with some of their teammates.
We've looked OK going forward most of the season. Woodrow is a talent, Brown and Chaplin have pace and can scare any defence and still have plenty of time to improve. But we're so weak at the back. We can't possibly overcome that. And if the opposition do nullify that front three with their tactics, or they have an off day, we have no alternative, no replacements.
A bit of both. For several of them I believe it's the latter. Unfortunately imo some others will never be good enough to play in the championship. That was always likely to be the case when buying as many players as we did in the summer. As has been discussed on here time and time again, that's why it's important to buy some who aren't a gamble and based on previous evidence have proved they have the ability. We just gambled on too many being good enough and are now paying the price.
They'll have a good season in league 1 next year, then if we get promoted they'll get sold, replaced with kids and we'll start getting tonked again. The accounts will look f*cking mint though, so it's fine.
"I get up.... but get knocked down again..... you're never gonna keep me up" Isn't that how the song goes... (well when it comes to Barnsley FC at least)?
Definitely defence that’s the BIG problem, and it’s going to result in us losing all our better players in the other positions in the summer. It really is as simple as that.
Agree. We score goals most games and certainly enough to win games. We just can't defend. Charlton had 4 shots on target today. We hit the crossbar nearly that many times. But the point I'm trying to make is, as I've said before, the number of shots on target against us, and then number of goals conceded is generally a very similar number. No league in the world would you get away with conceding almost as many goals as shots against you. Could they not have broken their failed formula and got even just a couple of quality defenders, to save the expense of guaranteed relegation
Better recruitment in central defence could have had us looking forward to another season in this league, but they just won’t or can’t take that gamble and it’s going to cost them in lost revenue.
I think that we have actively contributed to making some of these players worse, there are times when young players need to be held back and protected.
Totally agree. It’s madness to throw so many inexperienced players at such a high level. I can understand, but not excuse Conway and his cronies for not understanding the basics, but they are surrounded by football people at the club. Does no one at the club advise them, or do they not give a collective ****?
They wont listen that much is obvious. Daniel couldn't have been clearer, the pundits couldn't have been clearer , our relegation last time should have made it clear., you need to add experience when you go up a league.
There's some decent talent there. Chaplin has proven a lot of people wrong including me this season. Oduor has been good and Brown has got a fair amount of assists. It is defence that is letting us down through no fault of their own and I feel sorry that they are being put in this position.
