Following the change in formation and improved 2nd half performance against Charlton, here's my radical "s**t or bust" team for the Fowls game and beyond. It will get ridiculed, of course, but I'm trying to think of new ideas and not just shuffle the deck chairs. 3-5-2 formation. Walton Sollbauer Halme Pinillos Brown Thomas Mowatt Chaplin Oduor Woodrow Andersen Subs: Cavaré, Collins, Williams J, Bähre, Kilian, Schmidt, Simoes
I suppose if you've got to pick Andersen sticking him up front as far away from the defense as possible is the best solution. Just instruct him not to come back for corners
I think too much emphasis placed on this “improved 2nd half performance “ stuff. The damage has already been done in the 1st half and the opposition is seeing the game out and consolidating their position. Little more.
Quite a lot of people say that, and it's understandable. However, I think we absolutely battered them, we hit the woodwork twice, had 2 cleared off the line and created loads of other chances. I don't believe they intentionally sat back, I think our change in formation upset them. We took the initiative and it showed. In no way did that excuse the first half performance though, and indeed Mads Andersen made another bungle in the second half which he got away with.
How many times do you see a team come back from 2-0 down to make it 2-2. Then the team that lets the two goal lead slip regroup and eventually win 3-2? It's because once it's 2-2 that sense of value returns. I know that didn't happen to us on Saturday. However, had we made it 2-2 I'd have put money on us throwing it away.
Assuming you mean Sollbauer, yes they did. They also made Mads Andersen look better, so much so that he had 2 efforts on target, one of which almost led to a goal as we hit the bar from the rebound. I don't have a problem with people having different opinions to me, but for me these young lads never ever give up, they played really well in the second half, Charlton didn't "play the game out" as many people claim, they were in proper panic mode at times. The lads get plenty of criticism (sometimes descending into abuse) when we lose and/or play badly. It's only right that they get some semblance of praise when we play well, irrespective of the result.
Was hard to tell second half as the ball was down our attacking end most of the time. First half I can hardly recall him touching the ball. Did a lot of arm waving, shouting and pointing but looked completely lost. Game just seemed to pass him by. I know it’s only one game but he looked worryingly out of his depth. Also surprised how little physical presence he has.
Bit confused about our playing style. It says in the under 23 report that Sheffield United found it hard to cope with our high pressing game. I thought we'd now moved to the diamond. Is the diamond the same as high pressing? are they fundamentally different? If we are playing a high pressing diamond then the diamond shape will be flatter at the front and we'll need exceptional defenders to cover the gaps at the back. We haven't got exceptional defenders, we've got ordinary defenders (being kind). Can someone explain what we're trying to do?
Walton should start for me, Radlinger and Collins have been making too many mistakes. Said the same thing last week and he got as far as being on bench.
G: fat kid with goalie gloves from the ponty LB: ‘straighteyes’ Who lives in the corner pin obsessed wi cricket. Rb: Kipper Jackson CB: big June CB: the homeless bloke often found out side ladbrookes but lives in Holden house. Lw: scargill Cm: Big Issue man from outside marks. Cm: terry fuckwit half time draw man Rw: the dwarf who used to flog pies in the east stand CF: Paul Conway CF: my dog
Are the u23s still carrying on in the Srendel manner? Will have to have another look at them as I'm not sure whether they're planning on copying the same formation as the first team always.
