That's our average home attandance as reported by the club this season We will be in League 1 next season there is no doubt at all What will our avarage gate be next year? 8,000? with 150 from Fleetwood? I pay £3,000 per season for our season tickets, next year for the first time in years I won't be bothering, not because I don't love the club, not because we're going to get relegated-seen it all before. No, the reason I will not be renewing is I refuse to support the asset stripping profit driven bunch of uncaring, unfeeling, uncommunicative parasites which have got their claws into our club. I don't see them leaving until they have squeezed every last drop of money from the club, and they are not getting their filthy grubby mitts on mine First time in 48 years that I won't be attending Oakwell, god forbid they ever get their hands on the stadium, it'll be sold for redevelopment instantly.
Think they’ll go mid-season in league 1 after the last decent player bonanza sale this summer tbh. When Woodrow, Mowatt, Chaplin and Brown and maybe oduor are sold, their cash cow will be dried up for me, particularly if they keep buying European punts cos they’re cheaper than English players. We’ll then be left with a squad full of lower league European dudds on long contracts and a failing lower league football team whilst Chien, Conway et al say ‘Si thy!’
Judging on what the ‘official’ attendance was on Tuesday, I’d go with an average attendance with 16,000. With both the west and top tier of the east stand closed throughout the season.
CAVEAT: I AM NOT DEFENDING THE DECISIONS THAT THE OWNERS HAVE MADE REGARDING RECRUITMENT, SALES, DAY TO DAY RUNNING OF THE CLUB etc. However, this "asset stripping" accusation is being bandied about on the reg now. And it is all beginning to get a bit Pizzagate on here. Some saddo's gonna end up wandering in to Dane's office with some f**k off machete demanding to know where the kids are being kept. So: Q.1 Does anyone have a single piece of evidence that the owners have "asset stripped"? Q.2 They appear to have sold players for profit that we should have held on to. However, can anyone prove that the board have personally profited from these sales? Also, funny that nobody thought they were "asset stripping" vampiric nightmares when we were in League 1 and flying up the table.
Exactly this. The team are not playing very well and there have been some seemingly poor transfer decisions. As a result we are very likely going to be relegated and that's annoying. However, this 'it's the worst it's ever been and the very future of the club is in doubt' stuff all seems a bit overblown. They've tried the strategy they said they would, essentially the same strategy as Cryne and it hasn't worked out. You win some you lose some. I'll be there next year because we support the team. I honestly don't care what division we're in as long as Barnsley are at home on Saturday I'll be there for the foreseeable.
Same strategy? Mebbes mixed with a cocktail of acid and crack cocaine! Because if the owners aren’t on drugs.....
Yeah. People levelled the same "asset stripping" argument at Cryne when he sold Conor, Sam, Mawson, Scowen et al. in January 2017.
"Does anyone have a single piece of evidence that the owners have "asset stripped"? They appear to have sold players for profit that we should have held on to." Answered your own question there. The players are our assets and have been sold for big profits and replaced with cheap inferior players Lee's comments when he took over: “I like the culture of Barnsley,” Lee told FORBES during a recent interview in Hong Kong. “The club is the town’s biggest asset; it’s a small town, so the football club is its identity. Lee has managed to oversee replacing the asset of a Championship side for a League 1 side When we were flying up League 1 no-one complained, sure, however he sold the league's best defence straight after, as well as a very productive striker. The club banked the profits, Lee owns the club, so how is that he didn't profit from the income? He certainly hasn't spent it. The biggest asset of all he has stripped is the patience, devotion and loyalty of a large proportion of the fanbase, I have never seen so many angry and disillusioned fans. Assets don't have to be bricks and mortar.
Difference being we ended up buying decent English youth from lower leagues under crynes plan. Now look at the state of our squad under these numpties! All that transfer money has been pi$$ed away seemingly on euro-dross! And that includes this manager. Good luck making player profits on most of this lot that have been brought in. ‘Most successful transfer window in Barnsley FC’s history’.
Feel much the same. I buy the family tickets, and will continue to do so while ever they want to go. Can’t see me having mine though.
I am usually full of optimism Helen, always a clean slate when the next game starts, but this year I see no prospect of these owners benefitting our club. They've already made a statement of intent in the January window. And let's not kid ourselves, we were bought as a fourth choice when Lee didn't get Hull City, Middlesborough, or Brentford. He has no empathy with the club, town, or supporters and never will.
I actually asked in my second question if you could prove that any member of the board had profited personally from the sale of players. So, no I didn't answer my own question. Nor have you; because you can't, because no they have not. (Just to be clear, I am more than happy to be proved wrong on this point, here, by the way.) And I get your point: you're upset because we are losing all the time and haven't progressed. And it's okay to use the board as a vehicle for your apparently considerable distress. Though, if Chien Lee has managed to dissolve your commitment to the club with a single disappointing season then I think that better reflects the fickle nature of fandom — with the greatest of respect to yourself. Conspiracy theories about taking money out of the club are just daft.
It definitely is asset stripping. There's no other way of describing it. It's the aim of the asset stripping that is contentious. Is it being done to keep the club solvent and self sufficient or to line the owners pockets. There's no evidence of the latter yet. It isn't a good situation for pitch success and supporter satisfaction either way.
Meadowhall will be packed on sat afternoon with ex Barnsley n wednesday fans next year according to both .message boards.
