Two of them against Fulham. Anyone care to venture why we've made Fulham look so ordinary twice, when against a number of other teams we've been dreadful. You could argue in the first game of the season anything can happen, but today was an even more impressive performance, a game in which we totally dominated. I know results haven't always matched performances and you could argue in some games we deserved more than we got, but today was way above any of those, we just hammered 'em. Why?
I thought we played well in both games against West Brom arguably best team in the League technically there are some quality players in the team the main issue with young players is physical strength .As a football team there is a lot to like about how we move the ball forwards,
Whilst we played well, we were helped by a less than average performance by their goalkeeper who gave us a pen for the first, mistimed a run out of his area for the second, and was easily beaten from a tight angle for the third.
True. But we were never really under pressure either and had a number of other chances, although I accept many of those were because Fulham were chasing the game. However, we didn't drop deep and invite them on, we continued to play our game.
If the pressure is off, our fortunes might change. Today's result will give everyone a big lift. If we can get a few more points on the board, the three games in April re- Stoke, Luton and Wigan could be massive.
I don't agree about the pressure being off. Although some fans may think we're already relegated you can be damn sure the manager doesn't and he will have been building them up all week for this game and stressing the importance. If he'd said go out and enjoy yourself lads, we're already down, we wouldn't have won that game.
I think it would be counter productive to put too much pressure on what he needed to give them was the confidence to go and express themselves. Not being funny but he certainly wasnt going all out attack on Tuesday when we should have beaten a poor Brum side.
You can’t have both ways, slaughtering our defence all season and then putting our seasons best result and performance down to their poor defending
I guess the surreal part of there performance today was it was like watching our performances for most of the season !! laurel and hardy goalkeeping and defending. The third goal did he really mean to do that , cant make my mind up. he had his head down did he over run it a tad and it was a supposed to be a cross along the goal line ?. seems impossible to have tried to score from that angle with the goalkeeper stood near the post without thinking the ball had to deflect off the goalkeeper to go in A result like this was always going to come along some time .although its been a long time coming we take our chances they miss there's etc. i know its only one result but there's still a huge number of points left to be won. if we can build on this and get a bit of momentum and believe going in the players who knows. Next 2 games will decide our fate for sure. Massive games and both teams we are playing are in worse form than us Middlesbrough and Hull are not playing well at the moment and are shipping goals in and we have to take advantage and win both games No wins by either in there last 6 games at least 4 losses and 2 draws Hull ,3 draws 3 losses Brough. Win those and we have a fighting chance fail to do that and hard to see anyway back.
Haven't seen the game in its entirety, but could it be because Fulham's game suits our style. i.e. they like to play out and so are susceptible to the high press. Other teams (Preston/Birmingham etc.) were happy to bypass the press by playing it long?
I'm normally optimistic but Charlton was the key game for me, compounded by failing to win against poor teams last week. Today hasn't changed my thinking but I'm hoping to enjoy these games as I did last Saturday. It was way too cold and miserable for Tues night to be in any way enjoyable!
I agree with that. I didn't go or watch it but I did listen to the I Follow audio and I didn't get the impression that they tried to stop our normal game. Other teams have and as a consequence we have made mistakes and got punished for it. I think we have played well in a lot of matches and if it weren't for the mistakes we would be further up the table. Lets see what the next games bring.
We’ve generally played well against the better sides but been dire in the important games. The home games against Stoke & Luton were shocking performances, as was the away game at Charlton. I can’t help but think that Charlton game will be the one that relegated us. That 6 point swing was huge. If we’d brought in a centre back a couple of weeks earlier & had him up to speed by that game & partnered him with our best centre back Halme then it could’ve been so different. Instead we had Sollbauer playing dreadfully on his first league start alongside a badly out of form Mads Anderson
