Only way to override that is an unexpected run of winning 3 in a row to then start the final sprint on an equal footing with the teams above us. Could happen after beating Fulham but it's a lot to ask. Also fact we them play Stoke Wigan and Luton in a row could be interesting if we just kept there or there abouts over next few weeks
Thing is we don't need to win three or four on the bounce teams around us won't be. If we win 7 of our last 13 we get to 49 points and that should be enough. Looking at our fixtures I don't think it's insurmountable. The players just need to keep their heads down.
Fair point. Just mean that if could catch the gap quickly then we'd just have to better their results rather than win a high percentage of our remaining games. Either or would do though.
We were 8 points from safety after Strubers first game then we went to within a point. His first game in charge at Blackburn gave me some hope even in defeat. We looked organised, a threat going forward but as usual silly mistakes let us down.
We've also less points at 28 than any of our previous three relegations after 33 games. In 2002 we had 37 points and still went down. Even the dead fish eye team of 2014 had 29 points. The 2018 team had 31 points. The 2018 team managed 2 wins 4 draws and 7 defeats form the last 13 matches on it's way to 41 points but was unbeaten in their last six home games. 10 points won't be good enough without picking up a similar return away from home. Tall order.
What does that tell us? Presumably the likes of McCann, Jones, Bowyer, Woodgate who have been with their teams all season will have been higher? Really hoping that things are coming together now, even if it's too late for this season, so that we can get put the traps quickly next season.
Nah, think you’ve doctored this, everyone knows he’s a crap Austrian with crap Austrian mates. A non British manager could ever achieve that.
What he shows to me is how difficult the league is, if we’d lost on Wednesday we’d be right near the bottom. It’s very fine margins.
These lads were always going to be better as the season went on, they started to gel and get to grips with the higher standard needed also with the introduction of a tad more experience and the final realisation about where all the mistakes that cost us came from and eventually acting we look at long last like a competitive team. Mistakes and realisations.
That is true - but it is interesting to compare our record before and after Struber After Struber P 19 W 7 D 4 L 8 - Points 25 ppg 1.32 Before Struber P16 W 1 D 6 L 9 - Points 9 ppg 0.56 No question that things have improved since his appointment - but they improved significantly after the signing of an experienced Centre Half ( and injury to a goalkeeper)
If results go against us at the weekend we will be back near the bottom of the table. I think we should appreciate The good job that Struber has done but it’s the actual table at the end of the season he will be judged on.
I think we should ignore the league table and see where it takes us. I'd prefer to look at it as win 5 matches and hopefully given the fact that everyone plays each other near the bottom points will be lost meaning we stay up. Looking at it like that makes the defeats more palatable knowing they can afford 5 with 3 draws or 6 with 5 wins.
He will - but if we just fail on the last day and go down by a couple of points - like we did under Morais I would hope the judgement will be he has done enough to be kept on for next season - of course if the wheels fall off and we dont get to 40 points then its a bit different
