How many points realistically to stay up? I’m thinking 20 and trying to work out how we get them. What I’ve come up with so far is wins against Middlesbrough Hull Luton Wigan A win against either Forest or Brentford (hoping both teams have already secured play offs by time we play them) Draws against Blackburn, Stoke Throw in an unexpected win against Milwall on a windy Tuesday night and we are safe. No need to panic it’s in the bag
I’d say 48/49 and could be more. That’d be 6 wins and 2/3 draws in 13 games. Realistically it ain’t going to happen is it.......
It's 3 from 6 in my opinion (7 if we suck Boro into it Saturday). All we can do is amass points and let the others do the worrying. I'd agree your predictions look about right as to what we would need. Boro (poss safe) Charlton (very unpredictable) Hudds (see Charlton) Stoke (should have too much quality, but .....) Luton (sods law have hit a bit of form) Wigan (down IMHO) Us (am still praying)
I always say 52 for this division ... maybe less this year mind. I don't really know how many points we have no, and daren't look. We're doomed. Doomed I tell you.
What about 7 wins and 6 defeats? Winning every other game. Any draw instead of a defeat is a bonus. On paper the fixtures are all winnable up until the last three. I'd say 49 points is possible.
The last 3 may be more winnable than the others. Who thought we’d win on Saturday!? Our problem all season has been not winning against teams we needed (or even expected) to beat.
With the best will in the World, it will take a massive effort to get enough points to beat the drop. The average needed to survive from stats collated since the 1995/96 season is forty seven. I've got a feeling that it's going to take more than that this season. The losses against Luton, Stoke, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield and the draw with Wigan were key results in what I am afraid, will prove to be a very disappointing campaign. I hope I'm wrong of course, but I've got a feeling, that we've given ourselves just a bit too much to do.
True. On current form I'd go for 4 wins 3 draws and 6 defeats. That would take us to 43 points and hoping that other teams have shockers. It's quite depressing.
The depressing thing is we need 2 more wins and probadly one more draw than the three teams above us. Sounds very difficult to me and as from the Charlton game onwards I'm just going to enjoy the games and not think there's an escape.
We won,t back crashing down to earth on Saturday when they sit behind the ball. It’s ok when teams give us space otherwise we struggle.
45 to give us any chance at all 50 to be fairly certain in between - its down to luck I still dont see us getting over 40 points but then I didnt see us getting 3 points at Fulham so what do I know
I’m thinking 43 will be enough and we have a few winnable games left to achieve that. It will all come down to beating the teams around us and pinching some points along the way too.
Some keen relegation battles coming up one game at a time I'd sweat on 47 points but that support and result on Saturday has lifted hopes. Whatever happens there are some talented players on the staff and the future of the club looks ok.
I don’t think the team in 21st will need 50 points this season. More importantly, I don’t think they’ll get them. In fact, the only time a team needed more than 50 points to avoid relegation in the last five seasons at this level was 2016/17 (Blackburn were relegated with 51). The other four seasons would have seen a team stay up with a total of just 42 points. I think 46 points might be enough this season. I also think 21st and 22nd might just be separated by goal difference.
