I agree with this. There's no way Oduor's position can be classed as defender. When we got the ball from goal-kicks and the team reset itself, he was in midfield.
I’ve seen 3-5-2 enough, from the east stand upper it was definitely 3 at the back, and as always one of them can bomb forward a bit - a la Matty Appleby- Williams was Appleby basically. Never a back 4 in a month of Sunday’s.
Loved how Oduour looked so composed when he had the ball and wasn't afraid to take a man on. Got ourselves a bit of a gem there.
It was a wrap around back four that`s all, sliding defence behind the attacking full back. Struber has played it a lot.
Struber confirming he purposefully went for three at the back to neutralise Fletcher and Assombalonga. https://www.hartlepoolmail.co.uk/sp...ritt-assombalonga-and-ashley-fletcher-1888122
It was 5-3-2 but Odour kept forgetting he was a wing back not a winger and Ludwig kept forgetting he was a wing back not a full back. Simple.
This whole formation thing was very confusing yesterday. When I saw the line up I was firstly frustrated that Struber hadn't stuck with a winning line up as I personally think Luke Thomas played very well at Fulham. Having recovered from the initial shock of the line up , I then concluded that Odour must be playing at the base of the diamond allowing Mowatt to play further forward. I understand that Odour has played there for the u23's and given his undoubted ability I do believe it is a position that he could do well in. However fast forward to kick off and I concluded like many of the others on here that Odour was in fact playing on left of the diamond and that was my assumption for the rest of the match. (Admittedly this was through the haze of 5 very enjoyable pre-match pints... that Blue Moon in the Garrison is very strong isn't it ..hic ) Upon returning home ( and after more alcohol) and reading Strubers comments, it now seems that we were playing some form of 5-3-2 and J Williams was in fact a left sided centre back and Odour was a left wing back ??? In terms of Struber, mid-way through the second half yesterday I made the comment to one of my mates that I am really not sure about the guy. It was a comment partially made out of frustration as I felt a must-win game was heading for a 0-0 and all he seemed to be interesting in doing was keeping warm with his scarf covering his face. 'He's Nesh' was the actual comment I made. Now I read on here that he may have invented his own version of 5-3-2 so maybe just maybe tactically this guy does have something after all and some of his results with his Austrian side do suggest something about being able to punch above his weight. We wait with baited breadth as to what comes next at Hull on Wednesday .....
l too was confused by his post match summary. I too thought it was the diamond. guess he must have confused woodgate too!! I've liked Gerhard from day . despite a couple of poor performances hes brought purpose and clarity to a squad who seemed lost and de motivated. seems to me that he has a clear objective as to how we should play and he has adapted well to the massive challenge of champ football. hes had lots of stick on here but what I see is a strong leader of a young hungry group of players who are giving all for the shirt. hes not afraid of making tough decisions on and off the field. a good appointment.
I think that's why we've thrown points away. He's set the team up how he wants to and in the past at 0-0 the players have panicked and made mistakes due to wanting to hurry it up a bit and ditched his plan. Struber is more relaxed about his methods and has confidence that if the players follow his plan they'll pick up points. It might be not having that rush of blood that secured us the three points on Saturday.
