Why does Schmidt even get on the bench?

Because he’s the next best we’ve got. The under 23’s are obviously not very good in that case.

Remember though best ever transfer window kids.

He just doesn’t look anywhere near being ready for this level . Maybe in league 1 he will be able to get involved a bit more.

I am one of Thiams biggest critics but he would offer more from the bench than Schmidt does. Unfortunately all roads lead back to a terrible January transfer window as to why we have such a poor set of options from the bench .

A few key injuries will scupper our survival hopes in an instant.

Didn’t even know he was on bench. Thought it was a mistake on the spreadsheet

In my opinion all roads lead back to three poor transfer windows in a row.

He's a poor option from the bench when you are chasing the game & the defence is deep. He's a ball into space type attacker, he doesn't have the strength to play in a second half like yesterday. Up to now he's looking like a waste of money, but he is only young & next season he may look better in L1.

A ridiculous amount of money compared to what we sold Moore for.

I thought he did ok when he came on yesterday. A couple of good passes and found some good space.

He's obviously not going to be incredible when he gets an average of 5 minutes a game. What do you expect?

Because Disco isn't getting us a striker ready to step up from developmental.

Perhaps he'd do better if we played with more width, got some better crosses and passes into the box, and generally sharpened up our play in the final third.

Don't get how he got on in front of Elliott Simoes yesterday.

He may, but he needs to make something happen when he's on pitch whatever is happening. He just never seems to get involved or put himself about.

I would say that's true for every striker who has ever played the game.

Possibly, but the assertion was that he should be doing more to make things happen. That's not always how it works. Some strikers are much better than others at carving out their own chances from nothing, usually from outside the box. Others are better in the box or on the end of crosses, as we saw with him at Millwall. Not all strikers have the same attributes and very few of them (at this level) are good all-rounders.

The point I was trying to make (poorly, it seems) is that we're not necessarily playing to Schmidt's strengths and until we do, it's unfair singling him out for criticism.

    Good assessment and very true.

Also the odd 5 minutes here and there hardly help either in regards fitness and sharpness.
