If anybody can remember him,the policeman with the very large moustache has passed away.Great bloke can remember him well.R.I.P.
Only one I can remember with a large mustache was Bill Harber. I think he used to control traffic on Doncaster Road. I remember a Sgt Ellis doing school Police Week visits. Is it the same one?
Keith Ellis was the school Bobby passed away in the same home as my wife Ward Green Lodge He was a good copper was Sgt Ellis RIP Fella
Isn't it refreshing that "us" older citizens are talking about the policemen we knew and respected from our youth. ? In my village back in Donny PC Naylor was ever present. He walked round with his cape over his pushbike handles and stopped to talk to all and sundry . He was an imposing figure and I don't mind admitting, most kids were scared of him. He ruled that patch with an iron fist, and crime levels in our area were almost non existent. These days there is hardly any perceivable police presence on the ground, they drive round in panda cars and most of us would I imagine be hard pushed to know the name of their local bobby. Sadly most of the young people I came into contact with through Youth Work distrusted them and in some cases detested them.
Remember Sgt Ellis well. He gave a bunch of talks at our school, one after the tragic death of one of our year in a motorcycle accident. Some of my friends I go to the match with knew him well. RIP.
RIP Sgt Ellis. Remember him on duty at a match and the ponty chimed in with "Sgt Ellis give us a wave" And he duly obliged!

During the interim many more of those remaining have been transferred to counter terrorism, which has meant they are more shorthanded. Remember Sgt Ellis well.. Used to come into school as others have said. Lived just up road from him in the 80's darn Honeywell.

Did a huge amount for the community in Barnsley. RIP But still- Tories, eh?
Awful news. I had the pleasure of meeting and chewing the fat with Keith on a number of occasions (in his role as a school Governor), and he was such a lovely bloke. A gentleman, and a gentle man, whose contribution to our community is both immeasurable and irreplaceable. Thanks for everything Keith, and RIP.
Sad news indeed, an old school Bobby with old school values and old school policing methods which I'm sure is of a certain age remember and respect. RIP SGT ELLIS
Spent some years working with Keith at Barnsley Police Hq . A pleasure to have known such a friendly, pleasant, gent. Well known in recent years for his involvement with Rockley Mount and the Lamproom Theatre. RIP Keith.
RIP Keith. Never forgotten in my lifetime, first bobby I ever met at primary school age 5,48 years ago at Grimethorpe. Someone you were mesmerised with at that age. A true gent when I met him in later life.
A close neighbour of ours and a very pleasant man. Always asked after our daughter’s who are now wife’s and mothers they still have fond memories of him from their childhood days. Knew he wasn’t in a good way but still a shock. Rest in peace sergeant Ellis our neighbourhood was better with you in it and will miss you now you are gone.
