I'd imagine the fact you can get tickets to fly to another country for cheaper than you can get a train to a different city within our country is a factor.
tiny margins and unstable economies. Travel firms are always the first to go - they're a warning sign of recession.
Mad that I went to toulouse to watch fev last year for £24 return. Going again this year for £32 return. Surly airlines can’t be making much at those prices
I used to fly to Scotland and back in a day for business meetings and it could sometimes cost me more for parking than the flights.
Probably the end of Southampton airport. 95% of their business is through Flybe. Shame really, one of the few international airports where you can park up and walk to the terminal.
See also Exeter - and it will be a big hit at Birmingham. I was booked on FlyBe next Tuesday for work, and some of my colleagues were due to fly back today with them. All are now sorted today. As for the jobs, 2,000 direct jobs with Flybe, and another ~20,000 in the wider community will be affected by this - although many will be reduced income rather than jobs lost.
Southampton might be viable post-Flybe given that it's used as a feeder airport for the Cruise ships. Given that rail links are in the main to London Waterloo and northbound journeys are subject to a convoluted journey, flights make plenty of sense.
Someone will need to take on some of Flybe's routes though as they did make up 95% of all flights there - the few flights that are still running wont be enough to make the airport viable. In addition to the poor staff at Flybe - I guess most of those working at Southampton must be in serious danger of losing their jobs - if they do turn up for work today they arent going to have much to do I suspect
This virus hasn’t helped.Airlines losing millions and hundreds of flights cancelled because people are cancelling.
No its what has pushed Flybe over this week - though it was really struggling anyway and I think it would have gone under without the outbreak - probably not quite so quickly though
Only flown from there once around five years ago, but compared to Leeds/Bradford and Manchester Airport have to say Doncaster Robin Hood Airport was quite an enjoyable experience. In Europe my favourite terminal is Verona Villafranca. Had a chat with Gianfranco Zola there one year. We had just landed and he was on his way to London to watch Chelsea at Wembley. Appeared to be a top bloke. He signed loads of autographs and posed for selfies with some passengers. Best flights for me were on the now defunct Monarch Airlines and the worst ever, was from Frankfurt to Verona and Lake Garda using one of Lufthansa's Italian fleet Air Dolomiti. There were only seventy seats on the plane and with it only being small, it got quite scary when we hit turbulence.
Senior management incompetence for a number of years was a contributing factor according to an ex pilot.
I saw something today suggesting that a ban on selling its slots at Heathrow was due to be lifted in the next few weeks - which would have made it tens of millions and delayed the inevitable. I've flown Flybe 20-30 times in the last six months, and every flight was on time and the cabin crew were good.
