I can think of plenty (although i admit i left after the second goal). I actually thought we were the better team in the first half. Didn’t think we played that badly. It’s just that it all feels so hopeless... and un-necessarily so. But for a rigid policy, and some ridiculous selections we could have comfortably stayed up.
Yes I can however the worst ever is a very low bar and we only just managed to get over it with today's pitiful performance.
Ever? Loads performance wise special mentions to Leeds at home and donny away under wilson both 1 nil defeats. Plenty from lee jay aswell. Today was poor though
Anyone remember us losing to Northampton town 0-1 at Oakwell, they had a man sent off. mid nineties maybe, that always sticks in my mind.
The first half was ok, I thought they were absolute dogger and there for the taking. It is unfortunate that we more often than not lack composure in the final third and our crosses / final balls are usually piss poor. The second half was just embarrassing. Cardiff stepped it up a bit but we didn't compete at all. Ritzmaier backed out of at least 3 challenges when he could have won the ball and that for me is unforgiveable. If the players put the effort in and we lose then fair enough but some of them showed nowhere near enough effort and commitment in the second half. Struber in a roundabout way admitted as much during his post match radio Sheffield interview.
4-1 at Stockport when we nearly dropped through what's now League One. A goalless draw at Watford under John Hendrie, when we had Deon Burton and Karl Rose up front.
Similar era- Losing 0-1 at home against Carlisle under Viv Anderson, you’d be hard pushed to find a more pathetic display.
I'm sure there have been loads worse over the years, but I always think that if you can remember them, they can't have been that bad. Today was definitely one to forget though.
Just worked it out, home games I have watched (1,081 )approx Away games about 200 I have seen very much more worse performances than today-it still hurts though, every one where they are so inept, just in the 4th division it didn't really matter, no-one in the wider world cared. Now it's big business, much more publicity, far more expensive to go and watch, we are apparently owned by billionaires but are the worst team in the league. Being bad 30 years ago was acceptable and inevitable in some ways, being bad now when we're one of the richest clubs in England (I've seen that posted on various forums) is completely unacceptable
Been watching the Reds since many, many years ago. Seen quite a few games that have been worse than today but the current tactics and performances are very poor for a team 'trying to stay up' (seems doubtful looking at them today). Don't know if the 'manager' has lost the players or lost the plot, but they need to sort themselves out before next season, otherwise we will struggle in League Division 3...
Don’t know whether it’s the worst as there’s plenty of candidates but it’s amongst the worst I’ve seen where certain players didn’t give a **** . There’s players in that squad not good enough but that’s not their fault some needs leadership or lack confidence but there’s certain players that’s not done themselves justice today . Not saying that’s cost us by any means but it’s opened my eyes as to the integrity of certain player /s. Ps tactics were shot as well but that’s not to blame for performances .
One does stand out for me, can't be bothered to google the date, Port Vale away sometime in the 70's, 3rd round FA cup when it actually meant something, freezing January day, pitch like a skating rink. Lost 3-0, no reds player looked bothered, lots of trouble inside and outside the ground, all our coaches windows smashed, came back over Woodhead pass in a blizzard, driver had a scarf round his eyes to keep the snow out. Can't recall the team but we had a great following, badly let down by the players on the pitch
So you’ve forgotten the performances this season home to Luton Stoke Preston and Birmingham. Equally as bad. Pity we just can’t make Oakwell a fortress.
